All I know is, it's impossible for my eyes to fall on text without me reading it. Even if I make a conscious effort not to, I still seem to pick up words. But I'm assuming that's rather normal for all people, right?

I use closed captioning so that I can understand what is being said, but all of that other crap is extremely annoying. I download my entertainment especially if it has text of what is being said.

I only hate it when the logo in the corner is stupidly huge and/or is moving... or worse, a count-down clock or promotion of a show I don't even care for.

Subtitles only bother me when it's already in English. If it's in a different language with English subs, it helps me understand what's going on.

I find the logos at the bottom of the screen, especially the big, jumpy ones, to be obnoxious. If you want to promote a show, then stick to commercial promos.

I only like subtitles if they're translating the dialogue in a non-English speaking film.

If you can't block that with the browser,
there is also the sneaky way of covering
it up with a piece of cardboard with a
movie-sized hole in it.
I think that many ads only pay when you
buy something from them online, so if
you are not the kind of person who buys
things from ads then nobody loses any
money. It makes no difference to the ads
if you can't even see them and don't buy
things anyway, so why suffer with them?

I think Doubleclick keeps track of ads when
they actually do sell somebody something,
to account, and also to figure out what people
want to buy. (an "OK-ish" use for Web Cookies)

on most movies made before 1950 or so, i can understand the on-screen dialogue well enough. but since then, starting with mumbling marlon and his ilk, i must have subtitles to comprehend the imperfect diction of the spoken dialogue in most movies i have seen.

she tends to put English subtitles on because she cant hear but it is loud enough already. i can hear the tv on low what is also awkward is there are out of sinc.

its ever since we started gaining subscribed TV (i live in UK) the terrestrial station started copying to keep ahead. its strange that how these people seem to always want copy be following the person ahead. (lemmings come to mind)

I do get annoyed by the logos, and teasers for upcoming shows -- even thunderstorm warnings (duh, it's obvious a storm is coming).

I have begun using closed captioning for a few months now for most everything I watch, and the difference is amazing. I don't have to rewind things 5 times to try to understand what was said.

I hold the mindset that advertisements should be displayed outside movies and TV shows. So yes, flashy station logos and banners for other shows on the network do annoy me.

But I don't mind it when the station at least tries to keep this stuff subtle and out of the way. I like the way Discovery Channel does this by showing the channel's "D" logo, with the title and time slot for another show in static letters over it. The only thing animated is the globe, and it's slow enough not to be distracting. It shows all you need to know at a glance, without obstructing the show already in progress.

My hearing is pretty well shot. I depend on subtitles.

I don't mind subtitles necessarily, except when the translation is wrong, completely miss the context (that happens a lot here) or if they replace a message that would be lost in translation by a message that has absolutely nothing to do with what was said.

Junk in the corner or along the bottom on TV only bothers me if it's too big and flashy or if (as sometimes happens) it covers something important in the show itself.

It also annoys me when I'm watching something online with translation subtitles, and advertising pops up over the subtitles that I have to close quick so I can read the dialog. Sometimes I have to go back a little so I can read it, so I know what they said...

I cant watch anything with subtitles. I cant pay attention to the movie and read the subtitles at the same time.
