My Name is Khan -- excellent AS movie
Oh, wow. I just watched My Name is Khan
http://www.mynameiskhanthefilm.com/
It stars Bollywood heart-throb Shah Rukh Khan as an autistic Indian Muslim dealing with the anti-Muslim backlash in the USA post-9/11.
Definitely 5 stars. The movie is quite long, and, unlike other Bollywood films, there aren't any dance scenes.
I thought that others here might be interested.
Shah Rukh Khan is truly an outstanding actor.
Bollywood is one of my obsessions, and SRK is one of my fav actors! I have been looking forward to this! Yay, so excited!

Hi - I'm new here and this is my second post on this subject, but because I'm so new the system won't let me include a link to my other comment on this movie in another thread, but it was the one with "'SUBTITLED" in the subject line. (am a little confused still about the multiple threads on same subject but sure I'll figure it out eventually)
Delighted to find some fellow Bollywood and SRK fans here! I just got my copy of the movie from India and loved it! SRK is magnificent. The theme is noble. The music, we already knew, is fabulous. I'm rather unhappy to hear the new "international cut" of the film removes so much of the African-American content that the movie now has serious continuity problems. Has anyone seen that version yet?
Anyway, I'd been waiting a long time for this movie to be completed and released, and had rather expected to be disappointed because I was expecting so much - but I can't be more happy with SRK's portrayal, and the overall theme and impact of the movie. I hope a lot of people see it.
why would they remove African-American content? I don't get it...Gee, I hope I can get an original cut of this movie. Sometimes in the US finding Bollywood movies is difficult (I own quite a few bootlegs, LOL )
Nice to see I am not the only Bollywood fanatic

Hi! Me too. Netflix has a lot more titles now including quite a few recent ones and good SRK titles (at least my favorites, Swades and Chak De) in Instant View, but there are a lot they don't have, once you become a serious addict like me. I buy quite a few but try to avoid bootlegs. Usually there's something wrong with them anyway.
Well, as to the complaints, there was a whole section where he goes to help people caught in a flood and the people he helps (and who adopt him for a time) are a little isolated village of African Americans. There was a woman people thought was too "Aunt Jemima" and a kid known for his "funny hair" and a little country church - they were not CRUEL or negative stereotypes at all, just a kind of quaint outsider's view of this country. I thought it was nice!
I don't know why people objected, really. Just knee-jerk, the very idea of a foreigner trying to portray Americans or something? I mean, think of all the Hollywood movies that portray other nationalities in stereotypical ways - you just take it for granted, and overlook it if you know the country, if it's a good film. And of course Bollywood uses stereotypes all the time, when dealing with Indian types, like Gujeratis or Southies! Not to mention everyone else - old, fat, hunky, female, poor, foreign, Muslim, countrified, westernized - what would Hindi movies be without stereotypes? We love it anyway, right?
Let me know what you think when you see it. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer! Surely Netflix will get it eventually. But to see it sooner, probably you have to buy it from India like I did but maybe Nehaflix (in this country ) will carry both versions eventually. I want to see both versions myself! (Two old friends of mine in metropolitan areas did see it when it came out in the "Desi market" theatres, because I kept talking about it, even though they aren't serious Bollywood fans, and they both said they loved it.)
Sorry... I am too lazy to look... but does anyone know if there is a UK release date for the film? I would like to see it. I tried to watch it on some dodgy website but it was lame because some guy had just filmed it at the cinema. Not that I expected anything better!
I would like to see it legally!
