i always thought Mash [the tv program] was so self-impressed, so pretentiously "hip."
"Hill St. Blues" belongs in the same self-impressed pretentiously hip category also.
the "Survivor"-type programs disgusted me to no end.

^^Greetings everyone. I am very sorry if I am being horrible, however I do believe that I do not understand the concept of "overrated". Since the quality of any piece of fiction is relative, then there is no set definition to how such a piece of fiction should be rated. Therefore, I believe that, by stating that a television series is overrated appears to be equivalent to "I do not like this series, but many other humans do so".

I feel that, if anything, this is a compliment from you to this television series, compared to those television series that you do not like and the majority of other humans do not like.

That is, I believe that saying "Television series X is overrated" is a little more preferable to saying "I do not like television series X", where X is an arbitrary television series.

I am very sorry for intruding with your happy topic AnonymousAnonymous, and wish not to imply hostility in my post. I am very sorry as I enjoy very much analysing.

americans have a history of taking a european tv program or concept, and watering it down to suit puritanical american sensibilities- just take a look at what was done to "steptoe and son" [american version was "sanford and son"] or "til death do us part" [made into "all in the family"]- they basically polished the rough edges off and made it innocuous, like white bread. norman lear did the best he could but the network censors all had sharp blue pencils and would not be denied.

Roseanne, because too many times its writers forgot it was a comedy, and tried to have "dramatic" episodes. I hate when comedies do that.

And The Cosby Show. I thought comedies were actually supposed to be funny. On top of that, Bill Cosby was a pompous ass.

ALL sitcoms!

They all have the same plot. Get a bunch of weird people together in a house or apartment and see what kind of goofy things you can get them to do.

I never waste my time watching a sitcom.
