For me, probably the British films Kes (1969), If... (1968) and Gregory's Girl (1981)

I haven't seen "If..." for a while though. Perhaps today I'd find it a bit too counter-culture for my liking. 8)

I can't really think of any American ones. (Donnie Darko maybe, if that counts?)

Johnny Lingo. It was a Mormon propaganda movie, about loving yourself and inner beauty, about a Polynesian girl who though she was ugly, because of being rediculed (personally, this is a very stupid thing to do, because the God/esses created us personally. This is like saying F. you God-ess, and insulting THEIR work of art). Anyways the village girl physique starts to suffer from the health effects of depression from this mental poisoning, and thus begins turn unattractive. Lingo is a famous trader who finds wonderful things on the Island like precious perals, sea shells, and other pretty things he trades. He trades a very handsom peral for a mirror... to give to the girl so her beauty may be reflected. He also offers 8 cows to offer as a dowry, which causes her to have a paranoid fit of self loathing, thinking this was a macabe joke.

Yeah! Great film.

For me The Breakfast Club or Ferris Bueller's Day off are the best.

Such great John Hughes films made my teenage years almost bearable.

Cry-Baby

It's like Grease if Grease was less boring and a lot funnier. Plus: Johnny Depp. Need I say more?
