Rango is a CGI movie about a pet chameleon who falls out of the back of a jeep in the Mojave Desert and goes to a Wild West-style town called Dirt. After accidentally killing a hawk in the middle of the town, Rango fashions himself into a a hero figure and becomes the town's sheriff. But he soon has to contend with real threats like a rattlesnake with a gatling gun for a rattle, and also help the townspeople figure out where their dwindling water supply has gone.

I know it sounds like a run-of-the-mill kids' movie, but it's actually a lot better than it sounds. The CGI and the voice-acting were top-notch. For example, would you believe that the voice actress who plays Beans (Isla Fisher) is from Australia and not the American South? I also really liked Rango's character development as well as the development of his relationship with Beans.

What really surprised me is how very "adult" the humor and language was. The creators really pushed the envelope of the PG rating. The animals drink, smoke, swear (nothing worse than "hell" and "damn" though), and even make sexual jokes.

All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I wound up loving this movie. I genuinely enjoyed it and I highly recommend it. I hope it wins the Oscar for Best Animated Film this year.

So has anyone else seen this movie? What did you think of it?

I'd like to see it but haven't yet. They are doing a much better job these days of making children's movies that an adult can also enjoy. If it's well written then that is going to shine through. I'm not surprised that an Australian accent could easily translate to a Southern American accent. They are close cousins. The Aussie actor who plays on True Blood does a great southern accent (of which there are many- mine is the Appalachian variety, but I don't twang as much as some).

I haven't seen it but I really want to. Perhaps next week I'll go after my doctor's appointment in the morning (I'm gonna need a good movie to get my mind off of it. I hate going to the doctor.)

I've seen it. It's good. It's not really a movie that I'd recommand you bring your younger children to. I'd probably recommand it for anyone 12 or older. Some people slightly below the age of 12 (9 to 11, may enjoy though). Younger children might not get some of the themes in the movie.

Yeah I enjoyed it too, I found it kind of funny that it has some of the themes of kids movie with talking animals doing people things. But a lot of the characters were the grungy side of the West, like damaged body parts and such which looked very interesting, one of my favourite looking ones was a porcupine with the niddles going through his clothes. Definetly some laugh out loud moments, especially with his sucessfull attempts at looking tough.

I loved Rango. I Especially enjoyed the fear and loathing in las vegas references and the fact that rangos voice was the same as raouls dukes (although that might just be because they're both johnny depp). (fear and loathing is one of my favourite films)

It was also a genuinely funny film imo.
