What do you guys think of Taylor? Of Zira? Of Cornelius? Of Nova? Of Brent? Of Dr. Zaiuss? Of those pesky gorillas? Of (drumroll please!) CAESAR?

I thought it would be interesting to hear your perspectives.

A Planet of the Apes topic! Sweet! :D

My favorite character is Zira. I like the fact that she believes in Taylor right from the very beginning (even giving him the nickname of Bright Eyes) and even takes him home for a little while. I'm not sure if this is "weird" or not, but her presence in the movie is comforting to me, because I know that if I were to ever be stuck in that universe (hypothetically speaking of course), there would be at least one ape who would be supportive of me.

I love the irony of Taylor--a misanthrope who abandons humanity for the stars to find "something better" becomes chief defender of the species...

I liked the stark contrast with humanity too. The apes that have risen to become a greater race, even saying so themselves, yet having some of the same basic cultural problems as us, like discrimination. The original movie was a great movie in many respects though, not all of them social commentary.

Anyway, I can't WAIT for the new film to come out, that Caesar character looks amazing! It would be cool if they had bonobos involved too, they're always missed out for some reason.
I'm not that keen on the older ones but that's more to do with the special effects than the films themselves. But I do like Thade from the 2001 remake (even if he is overacting.)

Knowing me I'd probably like being trapped there, I'd just be standing their in awe at the talking apes.

I like Zira for the reasons stated before. I like Nova because she represents the humans in the first movie (Taylor represents human's past) in the sense that they have no voice. Everyone sorta puts Nova with the rest of the humans and underestimates her intelligence where Taylor overestimates her. She eventually learns to say "Taylor" (before she gets shot, unfortunately). The apes in the movie seem to believe that since humans can't talk, they can't think, feel or remember a thing. Nova debunks those myths. She is the one who discovers that the baby doll in the cave can talk. In the second movie where Brent mentions the name "Taylor" to her, she remembers Taylor and what he said to her. He said "If you lose me, go find Zira". She ultimately does that.

When I was in grade school, I was a Planet Of The Apes fanatic. I ate, breathed, and slept everything Ape. Just because of my affiliation with the human species, I didn't identify with the human characters (an aspect of my Asperger's, perhaps?). And so, my favorite character from the movie series was General Ursus, the ruthless gorilla leader with genocidal plans for humanity. I used to think his armor looked too cool! 8)
