I didn't get to see much ECW, but I loved the insanity of it.

And while the plot lines and character concepts do require you to ignore reality I wouldn't exactly call it Science Fiction.

i don't think anyone particularly looks for plotline or character concepts or development when they're watching wrestling. they want action....violence....the good stuff. and ECW always delivered on that.

I, who by the way isn't really interested in wrestling, think it's absolutely bizarre. Still, just as Cartoon Network is airing live-action material, Sci-Fi's airing wrestling.

Which proves to show that television is democracy at its ugliest, to quote Paddy Chayefsky.

Sabu shattered his jaw during that match and starts taping it up with medical tape...great stuff.

And I'm the biggest RVD mark you will meet. but after what happened Sunday night in Ohio, I'm not too sure they will be around much longer.

Sci-fi channel has never been sci-fi for the most part. In general it's been crappy budget horror films and futuristic action series'. There's a difference between actual science fiction and action or fantasy that takes place in a universe with space ships and robots and aliens, see. Actual science fiction is about the exploration of scientific ideas through a fictional narrative. IMO "Star Wars" isn't even sci-fi, it's just futuristic fantasy. Hell, it even has magic, even if it's called the force, and a futuristic alternative to the classic fantasy icon of the flaming sword. It ain't sci-fi, and neither is the sci-fi channel.

Star Wars is Fantasy, not Science Fiction. I don't know if it was ever supposed to be considered Science Fiction, but that it happened in space seems to be enough for some people to call it that.

You can tell this because think about all the technology in Star Wars. Most of it is pretty incidental to the story. The only technology that seems to hold any meaning are those Lightsabers, and they seem to be more symbolic then anything. Technology in Starwars doesn't seem to have any real impact.

We have a network here in Canada, the Space Channel. I think they're not even entirely sure what they are. It's a channel that doesn't take itself too seriously and it makes it much better. It's almost exclusively science fiction and fantasy. The closest thing they ever had to wrestling seems to have been 'Robot Wars', where people build robots that do battle with each other.

What is the point of airing ECW on Sci-Fi? Why not on Spike TV??? What makes ECW more violent than WWE is their frequent utilization of sharp objects during matches. Tuesday nite I saw Tommy Dreamer aggressively thrown onto barbed wires attached on a wooden board. OUCH!!

ECW is probably on the science fiction channel because it's more violent and it couldn't be put on regular primetime.
