Aside from trying to figure out what will make money, films have a certain structure to them that most books don't fit like a glove. When screenwriting, the writer usually has a template to go with so that they can formulate a script: three acts in a film, each of which are further divided up into beats and turning points in order to move the story in an orderly fashion. Not adapting books to where the film perfectly matches is as old as filmmaking itself.
The preview with Voldemort and Harry on the tower sure more suspensful for a film I get it. But the "Snape" stuff "tell them what you did!" etc. Is WRONG! I liked the books setup of Harry getting the memory and running to the office and using that pot thing and finding out OMG! Snape was on Harry's side all along! WOW! This film version of "You killed him tell them what you did." While IMO in character for Harry I like the way the book played it out far more. Perhaps that memory part stuff is still in there someway that was a great part of the book.
