Anyway, I like horror, action and comedy

I can't say I have one preference or even a few preferences.

Let's take a look at some of my favorite films:

Nosferatu (1922) Horror
The American Friend (1977) Crime drama
Blade Runner (1982) Science fiction
Highlander (1986) Fantasy
Batman (1989) Adventure
Léon (aka The Professional, 1994) Thriller
Heat (1995) Crime drama
Children of Men (2006) Science fiction

Not to mention that a lot of these films blur the lines of genres. Léon could be called thriller, romance, drama, or action, and limiting Blade Runner and Children of Men to a mere science fiction label is criminal.

Conclusion: My favorite movie genre? Good movies.

I like some of the old horror films. You know, the ones that relied more on suspense than on blood and gore.

I also find that I am quite partial to animated musicals, especially Disney.

Also, I sometimes like fantasy and action/adventure.

I like a good Science Fiction film. Action is nice but I like the rare SciFi movie that really makes you think about what you just saw. Something like A Scanner Darkly

Yeah, many rely on gore. There's a modern one that slightly uses gore but more for symbolism rather than as the driving force to the plot. It's called The Ring. I liked the story behind the "videotape" with the little girl. The villain pre-videotape is actually really adorable!

Talking animals. Narrating such as Black Beauty and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimeron DON'T count.

Me too! I watch rom-coms a lot... though I also love sci-fi, thrillers & dramas...

I can't stand horror and some kinds of violence..

I don’t have a problem with the concept of romantic comedies, but most of them are so godawful that I’ve been almost permanently turned off to them. When I want light entertainment as an escape from the misery of life, I’ll watch cartoons.

Horror is tricky, because most horror movies rely on gore and jump scares (sudden quick action accompanied by loud music) instead of pulling you into a subtle sense of discomfort. For anyone who dislikes typical horror films, I would recommend movies like The Shining and Jacob's Ladder.

My problem with horror is that my brain starts to play tricks on me and my anxiety disorder sends me into panic attacks if I can't get the movie out of my head.. Its not about the belief that ghosts exist blah blah... it just sticks coz I analyze every movie in detail in my head after watching like I record it while watching and it plays in my head later

The mild stuff like The others and psycho did not bother me

Science Fiction from Canada (Stargate, et cetera)

Drama/Comedies from England or Ireland (Doc Martin, Eastenders, Ballykissangel, All Creatures Great & Small, Waiting for God, As Time Goes By, Father Duncan, Benny Hill, et cetera)

Murder Mysteries from Japan (Partners, et cetera)

I haven't seen The Others, but Psycho barely qualifies as horror these days. More of a psychological suspense movie. If you like Psycho and haven't also seen similar Hitchcock movies like Strangers on a Train and Rope, I can highly recommend them, though they're even less horror than Psycho.
