Gotta love the wording:

Quote:
we are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into separate plans to better reflect the costs of each and to give our members a choice

It's all about choices! We believe in giving our customers choices! For example, we want our customers to choose to pay $6 more per month keep getting both unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming.

If Netflix doesn't abaddon this new pricing before September I'm cancelling my sub. I'm not paying $16 per month for their service.

Right now I've got the "one DVD at a time" and streaming plan, and I may keep the DVD plan and drop the streaming. Their streaming selection is just too poor to pay extra for it.

I will pay for the streaming and I guess my mom will pay for 3 dvds at a time.

I don't know if that is just the old pricing but under the change account, it's only 24 bucks for unlimited streaming+3 dvds at a time. I don't know if that is the old pricing but if its the new pricing thats what I think I am paying now.

My wife and I are debating whether we will keep it or not. We like some of the shows on streaming. We get one movie at a time but with redbox and other options we don't know whether we will keep the dvd option.

If you like anime, redbox sucks. If you want movies before the 90's redbox sucks.

I'll probably keep the streaming services. They have four Star Trek series: TOS, TNG, Enterprise and Voyager with DS9 is coming later this year. In terms of use I've used the streaming service far more than the DVD service.

Im just keeping the streaming service. Netflix's movie selection is horrid even for DVD/Blu-Ray and it takes them years to get a recent movie into their Queue.

Streaming.. just to watch tv series and documentaries. Though of late Hulu has been proving itself an even better source of this so my best guess is that in less than a year i'll either keep netflix or drop it for hulu.

This change in pricing plan is a very bad idea. Their CEO is running the company to the ground but he wont give a crap..his golden parachute is in place.

Actually for main movies it takes 28 days. Though some movies are on netflix right away. The movie companies are trying to make people pay 5 bucks to get movies through cable.

I've been trying to decide whether to subscribe to hulu plus (7.95/mth). I'm spoiled from using only Netflix, Amazon and buying used DVDs and don't want to return to watching something with commercials, much less paying for something that has commercials. I like Netflix DVDs for TV shows because you get several episodes per disc (yes, same with streaming, but streaming doesn't have much BBC); however, I agree that their movie selection is wanting. I'm using streaming mostly for documentaries, but I'm sure at the rate I watch them that there won't be much soon to entice me.

P.S: I can't add links yet; however, I just received my NYT Tech email, and Pogue discusses the increase.

If you think $16 is bad that'll likely double over the next 2 years still.

I'm dropping the DVD by mail for sure. Getting movies in the mail has been a complete waste, my taste in and desire to watch a movie lasts all of a few hours so i'm never in the mood for the movies that arrive and they usually sit around for a week before i just send them back anyways.

And probably by the next hike I'll drop the streaming but it's still a decent price. They've got an amazing selection of documentaries and great TV shows, but like mentioned, their movie selection is a joke list of trash movies.

...And I just upgraded to the DVD plan on the 4th of July. Way to kill my enthusiasm, Netflix...

I calculate that I could get 15 movies a month or more in the mail and only pay 24 bucks. Or I can go to blockbuster and pay 24 bucks for maybe 6 movies. And Redbox just sucks.
