My son is a South Park fan. Here in Britain the Muhammed episodes (episodes 200 and 201) are missing from the season 14 disk. He asked me if I can get them for Christmas, but they have to be playable on a region 2 DVD player (in his student apartment). Can anyone help? I don't want to torrent them, as I am making an online game and have to be hugely careful not to offend the copyright Mafia. But is there is a legitimate way to get hold of these episodes? If not, if somebody else is willing to download them I will happily pay.

If someone copies them and sends them over, that's the same as pirating them anyway. Since torrenting is so easily traceable, I suggest installing a Flash downloader plugin for your browser and grabbing the episodes from a streaming site.

I should note, though, that the law firm which used to send threatening letters to torrenters has been fined and hacked out of business, so you're probably safe torrenting it anyway.

I have nothing against torrenting in principle, and I am happy to pay the South Park creators (or Comedy Central) for their work. My problem is that Comedy Central (or whoever) won't let the episodes out. As for using torrents, the problem is that the industry is corrupt: there are many examples of them extorting money from innocent people, and the use of torrents is one excuse they use. I am making a game based on public domain art, and that makes me their enemy. One day I hope to make real money from my work and when that day comes some copyright troll will target me. If I have a torrent account, or there s a record of me downloading software that can circumvent their evil DRM, they will use it against me. That is why I cannot torrent myself, but I am happy to pay someone else to download a single file for me. That makes everything neat and tidy, and the other person will certainly be better at hiding their tracks than I am.

This all sounds very complicated. I know how to grab videos - I do it for animation reference - but transferring to DVD in a form that others can play would take me many frustrating hours. I did it once before, and finding the right software took ages, converting VOB files too ages, I then missed the separate "finalize disk" option and it didn't play, then my next attempt used "DVD minus" and the target player was "DVD plus", and in this case the target player is hundreds of miles away. I don't ow a TV, and all this TV stuff is alien territory to me. I really want to avoid that hassle. If I could just send someone a tenner and get a working DVD in the post I'd be much happier.

I just added a bit to the post (probably after you started writing your reply) regarding the extortion of torrenters. You're quite safe in that regard for now.

Burning them is easy, get a DVD-R disk and use some freeware for your system. Macs come with software for burning DVDs, have done for ages. Not sure about earlier versions of Windows, but I believe Windows 7 has a DVD burning app too.

Thanks. I'll maybe try a torrent then. But nobody should underestimate my ability to do it wrong. As I said, I find that burning disks is a major task: if anything can go wrong it will. My Win7 notebook doesn't have a DVD drive, and last time I downloaded disk burning software for my XP machine it took me about five products before I found one than worked. And each one took hours before I found this flaw. Around that time of wild downloading a virus mysteriously appeared on my system and I ended up spending another two days rebuilding my system... So if anybody is willing to find and burn it for me I will happily pay them.

All that trouble to burn one disc? That's XP for ya

If you get an external DVD-RW drive you should be able to do it far easier on Windows 7. See if your netbook has burning software included, though - it could be they only have it in the Ultimate version or something.

I just remembered another reason why I never torrent. I live in a remote village and my data speed is abominable. The smallest file (75 MB) had an estimated download time of three days 8 hours. By that time we'll probably have another high wind induced power cut. So it's back to begging.
