Star Wars, Star Trek, and Aliens franchise were one of the best classics I've ever seen.

I don't like Predator (both 1st and 2nd), but I enjoyed the AVP film in 2004.

I'd even say that Pearl Harbor (2001) was my favorite classic despite it coming out 11 years ago, and even the Planets of the Apes remake (rise was better)

Back to the Future trilogy is the best too, but just because of the story and how the actors perform in the film.

You chose 1977 specifically because of Star Wars? But I wanted to choose The Godfather (1972)!

Actually, I think Toy Story 3 is the best film ever made. Nothing will ever surpass it.

I think The Room might be the best movie I've ever seen. I don't know if I mean that genuinely or ironically, but I mean it.

People on the spectrum are not capable of irony. Therefore, you mean it genuinely.

I don't know. There are some movies I like because they suck. Not many, but they exist. The Room, though, transcends good and bad. It just is.

Here's an idea. I'll type in each of the years from 1977 to 2011 and put in one film next to them which I consider my favourite from each year. There may be some blanks

1977-Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope
1978-Superman
1979-?
1980-Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back
1981-Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982-Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan
1983-Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi
1984-The Terminator
1985-Back to the Future
1986-Star Trek IV The Voyage Home
1987-Robocop
1988-Die Hard
1989-Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
1990-Die Hard 2
1991-Terminator 2 Judgement Day
1992-Aladdin
1993-Jurassic Park
1994-The Shawshank Redemption
1995-Toy Story
1996-Star Trek First Contact
1997-?
1998-Saving Private Ryan
1999-Toy Story 2
2000-X-Men
2001-The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring
2002-The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers
2003-The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King
2004-The Incredibles
2005-Batman Begins
2006-?
2007-Hot Fuzz
2008-The Dark Knight
2009-Avatar
2010-Toy Story 3
2011-Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Though they may not be "classic" material, my favorite movies of all time are:

Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Sweeney Todd (2007)
Edward Scissorhands (1990) (the year I was born!)

Here are some movies I enjoy, yet not really enough to include on a list of favorites:

Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)
Hellraiser (1987)
Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)
Naked Lunch (1991)

Honorable mentions go to the original Willy Wonka movie and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, both of which I enjoy very much but can't technically include on this list because they came out earlier than 1977 (1972 and 1975, respectively).

I don't think i classify things like that. I like a lot of movies but the most i could say about them is i like them and not much more. Hmm, i dont think im committed enough to have a favorite. Maybe ive yet to watch it.

I'd prob do quite well at putting everyone elses favorites down though. I mean, pearl harbor OP? Are you kidding me, that's utter cheese.

That's one hell of a list you made there, my friend :D

I really enjoyed Planes, Trains, and Automobiles; perhaps because I love to travel myself and enjoyed seeing the situations the main characters found themselves in. I can see a little of myself in both characters, the aloofness of Niel Page and his uncomfort with being forced into close proximity with the stranger. In Del Griffith's loneliness and life as the outsider. The poignant ending also balances out the comedic aspects making the movie more rounded. I drive by the Braidwood Inn every time I drive to my parents house, the first motel where they are forced to share a motel room in the opening of the movie. It is right off Interstate 55 in Braidwood Illinois.

Agree with Star Wars although I HATE what George Lucas is doing to it, adding CGI scenes decades later. Star Wars as it was originally released is a part of history and Lucas should leave it alone. I am still waiting for the original theatrical version to come out on Blue Ray before I fork over $$$ to buy it. Lucas' alterations and the dismal "prequels" lowered my opinion of him as a filmmaker.
