Anyone else see his recent stand up, Doing Nothing Live, show on BBC?

Really fresh, itelligent, taboo-breaking. Brilliant. Would thank him personally if I was that bothered.

Yes, I watched it. What a lovely guy. I like the way he was standing up for his brother's girlfriend (I'm not sure if that was the show or him being interviewed). She was shy and his parents didn't like her, partly because she didn't say 'Hello' when they first met her, when they should have been the ones welcoming her. That's the exact same thing that happened to me with my in-laws and I felt Simon had defended me - that was nice. In the interview, he spoke about how he hated having to be mean to everyone on Buzzcocks. He's really not that person at all. He's coming here in May - I think I'll see about getting a couple of tickets.

Yes, it was as much something serious he was doing as it was comedy. I've noticed recently how comedy offers a socially acceptable way to talk about some of the most serious and taboo issues because it is ostensibly not to be taken seriously and also, what is funny is often the surprise of hearing something that we feel not allowed to say, or even think, in our own day-to-day lives. I think comedy can also penetrate with immense concision to the point that is to be made understood, rather than, say, having to skirt around matters in a politically correct way or provide comprehensive literary descriptions of things.

I enjoyed it! he seemed like a really nice guy, much different to his "Buzzcocks" persona! I will buy the DVD, if there is one!

I've got tickets for his show in May.
