I have recently watched the first three seasons, and I really enjoy it. Anyone else here like it?

P.S. Please don't spoil anything about any of the seasons past three. I heard season four was really good, but that's it. I don't want to know anything more until I watch it for myself.

The newest one was horrible. Other than that, yes, even though the end of the second newest one was also horrible.

It always scared me how much Dexter reminded me of myself. It's even scarier how much Debra reminded me of my sister.

Dexter's great, I watched the first three seasons in like 4 nights, then four five and six as they each ended. A friend of mine works in the TV industry and told me recently that the cast and crew has signed contracts for seasons seven AND eight! AWESOME!

Anyone read the books?
I´m just curious to know if reading them might be worthwhile.

I like it, but the last few seasons have been a bit of a mixed bag. The first two seasons and season four were brilliant though.

I loved the first two. The plans the tricks oh what fun. Never understood how dexter wrote off his trip to kill the psychotically unbalanced Narcotics Anonymous sponsor. 3 was fail. Dexter would not befriend his own brother but he will someones brother he killed? Season 4 was my last because season 5 was so bad.

What did you dislike about 5?

Dexter was a show about a killer. Someone that must kill his way. He would never let her live.

Indeed! He always has to 'fake it', about emotions too. I was thinking "This is me" for most of season 1. (less the killing jones, that is!)
I like the progression he has made over the seasons though -as noted from the flashback of his first date with Rita. (S4 or 5)

Who? Lumen?

He didn't have a reason to kill her. He does it for the thrill of it, and nowadays if they pose a threat. She was neither.

Guess, I´ll answer this myself since I just finished reading the first book.
It was quite good (as far as crime/mystery fiction goes, it´s not my favourite choise of genre), although knowing what´s going to happen takes some of the fun out of it.
There are some differences but overall the tv series is a very faithful adaptation. The monologues in Dexter´s mind are pretty much lifted directly from the book, so that might give you an idea of how it is written.
If what I´ve heard is true the other books take a different route than the tv sequels, so I just might give it a try.
Before that I think I´ll check out season 6.
