Ok, so I just watched all 1 seasons of Firefly after discovering it. Anyone who doesn't know what Firefly is should go watch it immediately so you can join me in asking, and this is why I'm posting, why would Fox cancel Firefly? I beseech you to give me even one valid reason why such a brilliant show with the potential to endure as other giants such as star trek, doctor who or my little pony(g4) deserved to be cancelled because whatever it is, it is far beyond my comprehension!

There are many great shows that have been canceled, usually due to low viewing figures. "Low" apparently means anything under ten million viewers nowadays :? If today's standards had been applied to, say, Seinfeld, it would also have been canceled after season 1.

Tragedy of the commons then. Brilliance suffers at the hands of popularity. I'll point out that there is a massive fanbase for Firefly, what few lines were spoken in the show have since transcended into legend. Problem is they all seem to accept that the show ended. Well, that or I'm really terrible at riling nerds.

I remember watching a couple shows after it was already cancelled and going out to buy the box set and watching all the episodes in one weekend.

But I don't agree with you that shows like the ones you mentioned Star Trek (Is it still going? I've never watched it.), Doctor Who, and My Little Pony: FiM deserve to be cancelled. While I don't watch Star Trek or Doctor Who, they have big fan bases with many people who love them. I do watch and love MLP-FiM, it's a great show. If any show has to be cancelled it should be shows like Jersey Shore and stuff.

Anyway, unfortunately Firefly was cancelled, sometimes the people in charge make terrible decisions. I do believe that Firefly could have kept going as a great show. I hope whoever decided to cancel Firefly is regretting it and seeing the potential it had.

P.S. - River Tam kicks ass.

I have been watching it recently after hearing good reviews and I'm currently on Episode 12 which I'm going to watch at some point later tonight. The chemistry between the characters is really great and it has great character development, I'm really looking forward to watching the last few episodes.

I did read some funny reviews and saw someone calling it rednecks in space. For some reason, the song at the start makes me laugh.

Anything with a story line gets canceled. But they last longer if they have a cute teenage boy/or tall blond.

It was not formulaic, in spite of the studio's best efforts. Joss Whedon was right in "killing" the concept so that the studio executives could not restructure the series to be just another "Cowboys In Space" lamer.

It was originally cancelled because of ratings, then there was a massive uproar and cult following, so they made a film. The film didn't actually make profit in the cinemas, but again, a massive cult following, possibly because of people disliking Fox. As I understand it now, Netflix owns all the rights to the franchise. It's now up to them to decide Firefly's future, but I think Joss Whedon is done with that universe.

Browncoats forever.

Quite simple, here is an example of the kind of human that could easily become a fox executive

^^^^ Kind of harsh given the fact that Fox opted to air the show at all.

...but only if they could air a more exciting episode ('The Trainjob') first. Which is why it was aired completely out of sequence.
