Oooh.... I just want to rant about this one. I don't know what's changed with the team but this flick was dead, dead, dead.

- No comedy... absolutely none.
- Taran beasts (with k-mart purchased cybermen masks)
- A lifeless companion... (bring back Donna or Rose)
- A silly iron giant which made me think Iron Giant meets Steamboy
- Not much of a plot.

Am I alone in thinking this was crud?

I'll admit when I torrented this one Christmas night (remember, I'm a yank :P) I wasn't too excited after I had watched it, but it did give me my Doctor Who fill for the next few months. The scene where the doctor was applauded was touching, but still, EVERYONE saw the Iron Giant 2.0, wouldn't that be in the history books or something?

Then again, a space ship crashed into Big Ben, various Christmases where ruined in the first decade of the 21st century, Clock people where in france, there was like an entire year of ghost people in London, & that's just in the revised series. (The Time Wars could have nullified everything else from the initial 8 doctors :P)

I suppose the Doctor lives in a parallel universe slightly different from our own, then? :P

I think the plot was rather bad, RTD somtimes can write some very bad episdoes but it's hard to critisise him after you read hsi book.

He should stick to Torchwood.

I thought it was alright, not the best episode

David Morriseys character was good, IMHO.

My main issue is that the cyberman were criminally underused, it was all about that woman. Its espescially annoying when in their other new series appearance, they were upstaged by the daleks.

Heres hoping Planet of the Dead will be better.

Its a UNIT story apparantly

I actually never understood the purpose of UNIT. I mean, what does UNIT do that Torchwood doesn't do?

Torchwood is a team of four led by an egocentric person who can't die and who has all the best weapons. They also report to the UK government - and to the Queen specifically.

U.N.I.T is an army of regular and specifically trained soldiers with limitless numbers of nameless soldiers who can be killed in all sorts of cool ways by Aliens. They also report to the United Nations but rely on British troops which means that they're really interesting when it comes to power struggles between the UN and the UK. In addition, their commanders aren't invincible.

Also... The DVD Releases always give us clues as to what's coming... note that they released the Sontaran box set and the Davros box set just before they appeared. The same happened with the Master Box set... and a little while prior, the Regeneration box set (Logopolis etc).

They released the Invasion just before the Cybermen appeared too.

So... some great clues...

They've released the Time Meddler (rock on Patrick Stewart), Trial of a Timelord (which probably means that they're going to talk about Gallifrey more) and now...

Battlefield....

Expect the Brigadier to turn up soon.... after all, he was in the Sarah Jane Adventures recently.

So now that animal brains are being used for the Cybershades, I guess they're not going to bring back the Cybermats, oh well...

As for U.N.I.T., I'm pretty sure they were around long before Torchwood was introduced (we're talking since the 2nd Doctor.)

Do you think it's possible that they're getting ready to have the Valeyard return? The end of Trial suggested that he might at some point. And regeneration-wise, the Doctor is getting closer to that...

Darn! You beat me to the post...
Yeah, I've seen the new Doctor, here is the full BBC Press release.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/news/ ... 03_news_01
And here is the interview with him:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/misc/ ... ctor.shtml

I think he will be a decent Doctor, not as good as Tennant(The only one of the Doctor's that rivals Tom Baker in my opinion).

I wonder how this guy managed to impress these people. He seems a bit young. But if he impressed both Moffat and the BBC execs, that must be saying something.
