I think one of the weirdest things about my liking to watch movies and TV is the fact that I like to pretend that the story in the movie is something really happening while I'm watching it. I used to be that way with video games, but now games don't feel as realistic to me anymore as movies do so I've turned to movies as a way to escape from reality.

Do other people here do this too?

Of course. That's why I'll watch just about anything, even terrible movies. It's better than the mediocrity, boredom, and misery of everyday life.

This, except I won't watch about anything. But when I'm watching something I even somewhat enjoy, it's better than most things real life have to offer in general, not just in my life.

Yeah I completely agree, so I guess I'm not the only one who feels that way. :)

Yep, I do.
I'm quite sensitive, TOO sensitive, to cope with reality so I use movies as a way to escape it.

I love movies! I just bought a couple of VHS tapes down at the trade shop for cheap. It's fun to just kick back and see how the movie turns out, it's trial and error, not to mention time consuming. :D And I like to think while i'm watching "What would I do if this was REALLY happening to me?"

Yes. My entire imaginary world is based on the movies I'm obsessed with. My favorite movie characters are my imaginary friends whom I have "conversations" with every night, which is really just me talking to myself switching between using my voice and their voices. I love making up romantic relationships between them, and I myself am in a "relationship" with one of them (surprisingly, it isn't a Johnny Depp character, but one of the female characters).

Sometimes I have trouble separating fantasy from reality, because I have a lot of trouble remembering that my favorite movie characters/imaginary friends aren't actually alive and that the imaginary world I created in my head isn't another world in some distant universe. Even typing that feels like I'm lying about my true feelings on the matter.

I used to be this way with anime, but as I've gotten older, it has become much less effective as fuel for my creative fire for some reason. I think it's because the characters don't feel "believable" to me like my live-action movie "friends" do. Anime characters always feel like they are variations on the same archetypes to me, whereas my live-action movie "friends" feel just as real to me as the people in my everyday life feel to me.

everyone that watches movies uses them as a way to escape reality for a while some are just more concious of the fact that they do than others.

Even though I constantly analyze movies and try to pick them apart, I realize the value of escapism that films provide us. It's extremely important to be able to "switch off" every now and then and movies provide an excellent 2-3 hour window in which to get away from the wear and tear of reality. This is probably why I don't watch a lot of documentaries.

Now that it's been said I would have to say yes. I watch alot of movies and TV and I have a confession to make. Usually I like to get up and walk around an empty place whether it be my room, the bathroom or a place where there are no people and I make up my own TV shows and movies for example a month or so ago it was announce that there was gonna be Ben 10 Generator Rex crossover and I imagine what it's gonna be like when I walk around and create my own version of this event. We don't exactly know what the plot is, will it be like Turtles Forever when the TMNTs of the 2003 cartoon met the TMNTs of the 1987 cartoon and tried to stop the Shredder from destroying the prime universe.

Of course. There are certain movies I watch again and again. After awhile I feel like I live inside them, taking the roles of the various characters at random. I suppose this is a totally safe form of social interaction: the characters can't deviate from the script and should I feel uncomfortable, I can just stop the movie. I'm afraid I often learn social behavior from movie and TV characters, rather than live people.

I guess in a way so do I. Everytime I watch something Transformers related (or even think about it) that has Peter Cullen as the voice as Optimus Prime, I can't resist impersinating him, in a way become him.

Not really... it's just a movie. I'm not 'escaping' anything. I'm watching a movie. I don't see how watching tv or a play or reading a book is escaping reality.

It's an "escape" in the sense that you're distracting yourself from the real world by focusing on a fictional one. You don't need to be sucked into it and confuse reality with fantasy.
