Starting this thread for people who want to discuss the Prometheus Movie by Ridely Scott.

So I just happened to purchase the Alien Anthology boxset at Fry's few weeks ago. I watched all the special features and a few teases by Ridely Scott thinking about making a Prequel movie to the groundbreaking movie Alien. Then at the beginning of the Avengers movie there was a trailer for a movie called Prometheus that I was very excited to recognizes as this proposed movie. Researching online I've come to find out that the Studio, Director and Actors all claim this is not a Prequel. I think it's all BS. They are obviously trying to play a legal game to cut someone out of the loop for Royalties/Credit. However that doesn't matter because the movie looks awesome!

I am hopeful. I am slightly worried it is going to turn into one of those Egyptian hieroglyphics movies in space that have been tried and largely failed several times. I would like to see something original at the movies for a change-- you know, come away surprised like I've gone through an experience and not just saw a bunch of glitz and cgi covering the same old thing.

I intend to see it, though I am a bit worried that it will be another Alien Resurrection 8O

Ridley Scott said that he comes from the "School of DO". Wich means that as much as possible he tried to build sets and use real actors rather then cgi. Which isn't to say there is no cgi.

The scifi mythology seems to be following the same lines as the AvP series. I think some questions will be answered about how those two species tie together.

I doubt it since Ridley Scott is directing. Although I do sense a bit of a common theme between the 2 movies. Prometheus is a movie about Creation, the relationship between the Creators and the Created. In some sense Alien Resurrection had simular concepts.

The very first in this franchise was brilliant. I even think the trailer was one of the most brilliant ever made. The second, to me, was just a recycled copy with lots of guns and explosions thrown in for a mass audience, entertaining to be sure, but nothing original happening at all really. From there things went downhill very rapidly, and the rest of the franchise, I think, is pathetic. But this one seems to be promising a return to the roots and something entirely different, so I'm hopeful, but I think I'll take Sluice's caution to heart as well.

Not gonna happen. Ridley Scott is behind it, not the idiot who made the AVP movies that panders to people who consume trash entertainment as often as McDonalds fast food.

I have high hopes for this movie, I'm not going to hype it up too much but I am excited. I rarely ever go out to the cinema.

^ Exactly, I'd be surprised if the film is filled with cliche cardboard characters like the ones in AVP and the other films, this is Ridley Scott we're talking about. + There's gonna be Noomi Rapace, I mean have you seen any of her films? Method acting slays

I read an interview with one of the writers - I forgot if it was Carlton Cuse or Damon Lindeloff - one of the guys from Lost though. In the interview he acknowledged it is a prequel in the sense that its in the same universe as Alien and the events take place before the events of that movie. But he said its not a prequel in the sense that the events in Prometheus do not lead right up to the events in Alien,

I wonder if this film will suffer the over hype its having online. I am sceptical of it and worry that it may hurt my love for the film Alien.

The story appears to be a group of scientist go off to find this alien spaceship after figuring out a message from ancient artifacts on Earth. Then they get there and realize they should not have come, it was a trap of some sort. Thats what I get from the trailers anyway.

I am not holding my breath.

The film looks interesting, but I'm a chicken when it comes to scary movies in theaters, something of which the Alien franchise has a history of being. I'll hold out for when it comes out on DVD before the end of the year.
