NINTENDO RULES MAN!
While I've owned a number of game systems over the years the Nintendo systems'll always have a place in my heart because of all the classics they've had--largely all the stuff you mentioned. I've been playing Metroid games on and off for a good 17 years, and I've enjoyed each one immensely. (Metroid Prime was one I was skeptical about cause it was 3D, but wow! What a game.)
I've only recently gotten into playing Pokemon (Sapphire was my first) but when I get into something I really get into it--distributed across the three times I've played through the game, I've played Pokemon Sapphire for over 600 hours.
I think it really clicks with me simply because of how deep the game mechanics are--you can spend as little or as much time as you want building a perfect team and training your pokes; I've played through Pokemon Colosseum on the GameCube as well. I can't wait for FireRed and LeafGreen to come out.
People'll rag on it for being cutesy and overcommercialized (both I would agree are true, though the former isn't necessarily bad as it makes it accessible to anyone--I have to smile whenever I read about parents playing Pokemon with their children) but I think it does the whole series a disservice. As far as the mechanics of the games go they are incredibly well-designed without being overly complicated for everybody.
I have also been a fan of Nintendo for many years now and got a GameCube the day it came out. GameCube has been viewed negatively by many people for its lack of games for older gamers, but this is not true at all. One of the great things about GameCube is how well balanced the number of games for different age groups are. If the power of its hardware is used correctly, then the GameCube can produce equal if not better graphics and sound than the Xbox. The most notable example of this is Resident Evil 4. One of my favorite games is Viewtiful Joe, which was exclusive to GameCube until just recently. The gameplay is truly revolutionary and has a great sense of style seen in no other games. It is an excellent thing for GameCube that Capcom chose to make many of its games exclusive to Nintendo, especially after Rare defected to Microsoft. The only things I don't like about GameCube is that it uses a proprietary discs instead of standard DVDs and that a sequel for Super Smash Brothers Melee has not yet been made, even though it has sold better than any other games for the system. The smaller discs look cool, but do not offer any real advantages over larger DVD.

Ah. I've been waiting for this to happen. Thank you, lonelyman88. you have redeemed yourself in the eyes of all the Nintendo freaks and Aspies that visit this site.
As for those of you who do not know me, I am Archmage. If you want to know why i chose this name, see my introduction post in the forum "getting to know each other." my video game interests include Zelda, Star Fox, and Pokemon. i have an extensive collection of Zelda games for both the N64 and the GBA-SP. As for Pokemon, I have every GB(A) game except Blue and Crystal. I have only one Star Fox game however, and it is Star Fox 64. i must leave now, so good bye, and thanks again to lonelyman88.

Hey. Archmage again. i just wanted to let you know that I have started a forum with a poll under the games section, titled ,"Do you live the Legend?"
And I'll give you three guesses what its about( voice over:Princess Zelda says somthing ironic here).
Check it out for me,

(insert Triforce mark here)
as i mentioned in archmage's zelda post, i have just bought a gamecube off ebay, so i now join your proud ranks. the 'cube came with soul calibur 2 and super mario sunshine, which should keep me busy for a while, and with f-zero gx, zelda wind waker, metroid prime, viewtiful joe, ikaruga (yes!!), super monkey ball, eternal darkness, shikagami no shiro (vertical shooter like ikaruga) on my 'to buy' list, endless hours of gaming bliss await me. nintendo really seems to be the only game (hardware) company that has a philosophy of gaming as pure, unadultered escapist fantasy. people call nintendo games 'kiddy' as if it was a bad thing. im buying a gamecube precisely because the games are 'kiddy', in that they depict fantastical worlds and characters, offering escape from reality, instead of feeble simulations of it. (eg gta 3, the endless barrage of ww2 fps's, manhunt)
Nintendo's next generation plans seem intruiging. Quote from Nintendo President Satoru Iwata:
""Different also defines our approach to our next home system. It won't simply be new or include new technologies. Better technology is good, but not enough. Today's consoles already offer fairly realistic expressions so simply beefing up the graphics will not let most of us see a difference. So what should a new machine do? Much more. An unprecedented gameplay experience. Something no other machine has delivered before.
"The definition for a new machine must be different. I want you to know that Nintendo is working on our next system and that system will create a gaming revolution. Internal development is underway.
"I could give you our technical specs, as I'd know you'd like that, but I won't for a simple reason: they really don't matter. The time when horsepower alone made all the difference is over.
"Work on Revolution is well underway. When you see it you will be excited because you will experience a gaming revolution."
And he's got it exactly right. Good graphics are cool, but nowadays you see so many games with eye popping graphics that you sorta get desensitised to the eye candy. And the unreal 3 engine already ruined the surprise of what next gen graphics will be like anyway. http://www.unrealtechnology.com/html/technology/ue30.shtml I really hope that Nintendo deliver on their hype for their next console, and that they can live up to their rhetoric.

Speaking of which, have you heard anything about that console? I heard a rumor from my mom (who works for a house-cleaning service, and heard it from one of her clients that worked for Nintendo of America) that Nintendo was developing somthing to make up for the Gamecube(which, with no offense intended to Venom, never gained much popularity when compared to the simultaneously released Xbox and PS2). That is what caused mom to veto my attempt to purchase a Gamecube, by the way. I heard about it, but did not get a single detail. im guessing that it was top secret. i sure hope that they can make another Zelda game to go with it that's better than Ocarina of Time(or at least, as good as it.) i need to go, so ill see you later.
Hope you have some details...

This is my star-crossed tale...
Well, no one really knows anything except what the Nintendo guys are telling us: its gonna be something big. Again, to quote Iwata-San:
"The definition for a new machine must be different. I want you to know that Nintendo is working on our next system and that system will create a gaming revolution"
Now i'm thinking its something to do with the controller. If we're talking about the system itself being revolutionary, (as opposed to a revolutionary game, an area in which there is obviously huge scope for evolution and revolution) the most obvious thing to change would be the controller, literally changing the way that people play games. N-sider has an article where they speculate on the Nintendo Revolution, and they've got an interesting bit about the possibility of controllers with gyroscopes in them, so that the game could be controlled by tilting the controller. (apparently Nintendo has actually made a deal with some gyroscope company already) Here's the link: http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=330
On the console sales thing, sure the gamecube sells less, but that's not really an accurate reflection on the consoles quality. The Ps2 and X-box sell more largely because of they appeal to the casual gamer market; that is, when mr. joe average wants to buy a games console, he's gonna get a ps2 or an x-box, because the gamecube is 'too kiddy'. he doesnt want to play a mario game, he wants to play a sports game or a racing game. add that to the fact that the gamecube looks like a fisher price toy as compared to the sleek 'black box' designs of the ps2 and x-box, means that the gamecube really has zero appeal to the average consumer. BUT that doesn't mean it's not a great system. Even though former gamecube exclusives such as Viewtiful Joe and Super Monkey Ball are now defecting to ps2 and x-box, Gamecube still has a smorgasboard of great exclusive games- Ikaruga, Eternal Darkness, Super Mario Sunshine, F-zero GX, Zelda Wind Waker (and upcoming 'mature' Zelda game), Metroid Prime, the Star Wars Rogue Squadron games.
Oh, and by the way, they ARE making another Zelda game, but its coming out on the gamecube. Here are some screens.

HOLY SH*T, MAN! And just when i thought that the Legend of Zelda couldn't get any better... those graphics look like they came out of the Xbox... no, out of real life! this is just too good to be true. i know what i want for Christmas! (although whatever it is, it probably won't be out by then, and even if it is, it'll be way too expensive... i'll aim for my birthday, then.) i am just lost for words... i better tell the guys on my other LOZ post
the good news! I'll tell them i heard it from you, so i won't be plagarizing. Thanks a whole bunch!
I'm gonna be lookin' forward to this...

Yeah it looks awesome doesn't it? When's your birthday? just checking around the net for a release date aaanndd....can't find one. i think the revolution is scheduled for mid 2006, and they'll probably be releasing the new zelda some time before that, so that its not overshadowed by the release of the revolution. anyway, the zelda section of ign gamecube's got a bunch of screenshots, and some interviews with the big shot nintendo guys who are in charge of making these games.

*edit*
Found this juicy tidbit while trawling ign-
IGN: The codename Revolution implies a new way to play games. Can we safely assume that this will be the case?
Perrin Kaplan: I think DS shows a new way to play games. The opportunities for that seem almost endless. Our hope and intent is to create something as unique as DS [with Revolution].
The DS is nintendo's new dual screened gameboy, in case you didn't know.
This guy is Nintendo's 'vice president of corporate affairs', by the way.
I reeeaally hope that they show us the Revolution at next year's E3. something as unique as the DS...thats so tantalising and intruiging. i hope its not the tilty controllers as mentioned in my earlier post, as i can imagine something like that handling quite imprecisely and messily, and i think it would just be a case of needlessly reinventing the wheel. but what else could it be.....a virtual reality headset maybe..or...oh man i dont know i think it'll be something to do with the controller or some fancy new periperal. come on nintendo don't let me down, bring out the big guns to blow those upstarts sony and microsoft out of the water.

I completely agree, except I think the best example is Rogue Squadron III:Rebel Strike, RS is to this day the highest polygon count console game ever made. In one level over 150 1-10k polygon ships are on screen simultaneously, each with as many as 8 lighting effects applied to it and all bump-mapped. In the Hoth level there are literally hundreds of imperial troops each a (I think) 800 poly model alongside exploding AT-ST with volumetric smoke and in my opinion the best fire graphics in any video game ever made console or not.
Can you tell I like the game?
Edit: Here's a link to one of the in game ship models http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/starwarsroguesquadron3/screens.html?page=82
