A YouTuber known as TheAnimeOverviewer (formally known as aikoarisaka420) has made a rant that basically describes why dub haters are among the worst of anime fans. He's made some very solid points in this rant, so make sure to watch the entire video, especially the part starting at 3:52. Please keep in mind that this rant does NOT refer to all dub haters, just the kind he mentions in this video. Also, even though the upload date is "May 11, 2010," this video was actually made almost a year ago, but his first channel got suspended due to a false DMCA claim.

Enjoy.

Not that I am going to go into that, but seriously, a good dub is usually as good as the original. The original Ocean Group version of Dragonball Z was stilted as hell, but the Funimation dub is a world ahead, but with just the right cheesiness to keep it right.

I think that anime, as far as English dubs are concerned, need to be a little overstated compared to the original. It is really hard to understand the subtleties and emphases on certain words when you only have subtitles, whereas a really good dub (Evangelion or Death Note are cases in point) evokes this automatically without having to concentrate.

Yeah agreed with this that a lot of dub haters have little basis for their hate. Personally I often prefer to watch subtitles and I felt the original voice fit better, but I watch both and agree that the elitest dub haters are definetly not productive.

Some dubs can add some interesting things that the original could not, such as accents in things like Hellsing and Negima, they also can be easier to watch, and best of all it allows it to be open to more people.

I am not a dub or a sub person. I just enjoy anime. If an english voice sounds better, its english. if japanese sounds better, its japanese.

Yeah, while I do prefer to watch anime in its original language, I have nothing against people that choose to watch the dub. Its not like a live action movie where you're going to to notice it alot. People seem to get a little up themselves about their preferences for this sort of thing unfortunately.

I'm not a 'dub hater'. I do prefer subs though. It's not even really due to the quality of dubs, as they have gotten tremendously better over the years. But I prefer the original audio. Which would be true of any foreign piece I watch. I wouldn't want to watch a French art house film dubbed into English. It just wouldn't look or sound right, no matter the quality. I feel the same way towards Japanese animation.

On the other hand, hehe, is when a dub ruins a show. I can't stand the FMA Brotherhood on Adult Swim, because the dub audio track cuts in and out between the original dub and the newly dubbed parts. There's an inconsistency in quality that it totally destroys the enjoyment of the show.

I don't hate the dub, but if I can watch a sub instead, I will.

There are some dubs out there that work really well, and then there's the rest, I can't really explain it but I feel that in most cases the Japanese voice actors put more feeling into their acting than some dubs of the same show, also trying to watch a show with a lot of references to other animes and cultural jokes and whatnot; subs will often times include an explanation for what was being said.

I haven't taken the time yet to watch the rant, but reading through the comments I agree, mostly. Some dubs on the other hand are quite horrible, especially compared to their originals such as Bleach (don't get me started on the Espada's voices.) On the comment about DBZ, the Funimation dub is rather good, I'm not sure what to think of Kai yet though, they changed the audio for "It's over 9000" which was more of a letdown than I'd hoped, but there's still promise for it. From what I've seen it's about a 51:49 good to bad dubs, it just seems that the good dubs are more often direct to dvd and as such get less publicity.

Dub haters are not the most annoying fans. People who complain about other people are much more annoying, followed by Yaoi fangirls (not fans of Yaoi so much as people pairing off male characters in non Yaoi titles for the hell of it), followed by Weebos.

I hate because of how they dub, more than because they dub.

I was very happy with Funimation and the toonami line. The DBZs, tenchi muyos, Sailor Moons.
Along with Miyazaki's films.

Then 4kids came along.....

now I hate and there is no saving me.

I'm the same. I tend to prefer to watch dubs because I'm usually multitasking and can't just stare at the screen, so I only watch subs when the dubbing is awful (El Hazard, X: The Series, etc).

I find dub haters hilarious to watch sometimes... Once you think about it, this is all they're saying in the end...

Quote:
I hate english dubs of anime because I want to watch a series where...

--Absolutely no one speaks even the slightest bit of english
--I can read subtitles even though I have no idea what they're actually saying
--It has more violence and kinky cartoon porn in it's original source material...

I say just shut up and watch the damn show or better yet = don't. Who says it's just for you?

I never really cared about the 4kids dub of Sonic X, especially since everyone in the games prior to the show have always changed voices (minus Sonic.) The only thing I just don't like about the show is its constant pun-o-rama. And DBZ? Ocean or FUNImation, I don't care. I grew up watching that show to not even care in the slightest how it sounded...

The only real English Dub that I hate is the 4kids dub for Ultraman Tiga. The show's dubers sounded awful, filled with too bipolar moments (most of the show's buildup was serious-sounding stuff and when you watch the show, it took nothing serious and kills any kind of moment that appears within the show) and all the series did was serve as just filler to understand a parody in series, Kirby: Right Back at YA!

I don't understand why people who don't understand Japanese listen to the Japanese audio. Why even bother? I can understand that some dubs really suck, but I can't stand to listen to all that Japanese chatter that I don't understand a word of. You're right though, some dub haters are much worse than others. The elitists mainly, who think they're better for not watching dubs.

You know how annoying Yaoi is when you're looking for a good fanfiction and you have to sort through the endless Yaoi junk in order to find the rare story which doesn't include it? So damn annoying. Even more annoying is that they just pair up anyone and everyone they can think of.

Personally, I prefer subs even if the dub is really good, but that's because I'm hard of hearing and I watch most of my anime online where it's difficult to find good subtitles on dubbed versions.

I'm a yaoi fangirl who loves pairing up "het" characters. That said, I STILL get what you're saying. I don't think it's fair to impede on free speech and all that, but why sites like fanfiction. net and deviantArt don't have yaoi, yuri, and even het filters is beyond me.

If you want to read only yaoi pairings with a certain character, then you should have that option. If you don't want to read yaoi at all and don't feel like sifting through it, then you should have that option as well.

I think yaoi fangirls (myself included) need to understand that not everyone who hates yaoi is a homophobe. Some people just really don't want to see their two childhood cartoon heroes getting it on with each other.

yeah i agree i never really understood why some people hate dubs so much I mean sure some times the japanese voice actors are better but the dub voice actors can be the same way so that need to shut up about it unless the dub is like yugioh where they censored just about everything in the episodes.

It depends on the anime, some sound better with the english dubs than with the subs while most others sound best in japanese with sub titles. Dragon Ball Z is better in English dub imo FLCL is about tied and equally good. Bleach Naruto and One piece sound best subbed though. Thats just me though.
