I enjoy scary movies of all types, especially when it involves ghosts, haunted houses, demons etc

But for some reason I can't be scared nor have nightmares. I just watch them for entertainment but not to scare myself. I don't really understand what's scary about horror films. Is anyone like this too? I have friends who can't even watch those things.

I love scary movies, but I have nightmares really easily so I don't watch them often.

I went through a phase from preteen to early adult when I watched scary horror movies, and read scary horror movies. Yes, they do bother me, and I found over time that I really didn't like them, so I rarely watch such any more. I still like some of the old monster movies and I like a lot of sci fi stuff, too, but you can keep the horror movies.

I do think that Bela Lugosi was a great Dracula. I also saw Jack Palance in that role once, and he was really good doing Dracula, too. I basically grew up with Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Vincent Price, and many other great old horror stars.

The Monster movies aren't really that scary because the monsters are so fake, but I like to watch those movies to see old stars I like, and not just the horror stars. Many other stars co starred in these movies, so I get to see them, too.

I've been into the outer space type sci fi since I was about 10 years old, That's over 4 decades of blast offs.

I am really not into the creepy horror stuff any more, though. And yes, it has occasionally caused nightmares, so I will stick to the sci fi, and you can have the horror stuff. :D

There are two movies I've seen that truly made me jump. out of my skin - The Fog and 100 Feet. Excellent.

No, they don't scare me, they're only fiction. However, I don't like their subject matter and they oftentimes disgust me - as in physically disgusted. E.g. I couldn't watch The Exorcist, because I got physically sick looking at the way the young possessed girl was disfigured, I got nauseous and felt like throwing up. I guess it's because of my synaestesia, whereupon visual sensations are also felt in my body and unpleasant visual sensations = nauseous feelings in my body...

Jump scares spook me more than actual scary movies as a whole, even though scary movies use these more than other films. While it ruins any hope of me seeing a scary movie in theaters, I'll watch it on DVD at home where I have more control of the volume and the subtitles. That way, I won't miss any of the dialogue. As far as violence goes, I can handle it thanks to years of watching action movies and pro wrestling.

No. The most that a scary movie managed to get out of me is a brief jump, usually from things very suddenly happening.

Traditional horror movies don't bother me at all. The only types of movies that truly disturb me are ones that mess with your mind, like Donnie Darko and the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.

If I allow myself to feel part of the film as though I am living the experience then yes it can scare me
but I love the thrill of it!
The movie can't be too far fetched to the point of stupid like characters that can't die ,etc.
I can place myself in to the story so deep that I am one of the characters living out every smell, taste, touch, pleasure and pain
they endure. :D

It probably isn't considered horror, maybe sci fi? Not sure. I did see Signs and that one scene where you see the shadows on the TV screen that scared me so much! I remember some people in the theater were screaming. It gave me nightmares. I did see the Scream series and that didn't scare me too much. I saw Halloween and thought uh ok. Interview With a Vampire didn't scare me either.

I hardly get scared of movies. For films like Saw, Silent Hill, they make me laugh. And I always thinks those so called "horror scenes" very funny. 8)

I absolutely love horror flicks, and in most cases I don't get particularly scared. As a kid, though, Lon Chaney as the Wolfman used to scare the crap out of me, and I was genuinely traumatized by a movie called Prophecy, starring a nightmarish mutant bear - that thing caused me plenty of sleepless nights in my junior high days, and still haunts my dreams even today from time to time. For the most part, though, the most I get is an enjoyable scare that makes me jump in my seat.

Not really. I laughed while watching the Paranormal Activity movies, and Insidious was more fascinating than scary. Movies about ghosts and aliens don't scare me.

the weird thing is... I get horrific nightmares from the most simple things, and scary movies only make that worse... but for whatever reason, I generally don't get nightmares from video games...

"Scary" movies don't scare me. They aren't real. I enjoy horror movies.
