I was just watching the first TMNT movie from 1990 an hour ago and as the movie introduced the Turtles some questions popped into my head that has actually popped into my head before when it came to other TMNT stuff. Here it is:

The Turtles live underground and have a bunch of stuff like a T.V., chairs, tables, a kettle, a record player etc and one wonders where they get this stuff from? I guess they find them in a junkyard or something and when it comes to electronic stuff like the T.V. Donotello must use his knowledge of tech and stuff to make them work. Then there's food and drink. How do they get all that stuff? In the first movie Michaelangelo orders a pizza and has the pizza guy slips it down the sewer and he gives him the money. Where did Michaelangelo get that money from? Did he find it on the floor? My guess is that maybe sometimes the Turtles actually steal in order to survive. Of course there's also their human friends like April O' Neil and Casey Jones who must help them now and then when it comes to money but what about before they met them. Maybe they take stuff from some of the bad guys they beat up, though in the movie at the beginning Leonardo mentions that they had just had their first battle ever with those hoodlums who were mugging April, so how did they survive since then. Again maybe they took some of the stuff they need from a junkyard. I don't know much about sanitation but it's not like the sanitation people ever list any of the junk they get. So when someone takes it it's not really stealing though you'd probably have to ask permission to go in. I remember in the 2003 animated series that there was an episode where the Turtles were in a junkyard looking for stuff and there were homeless people there too. I guess New York City is OK with homeless people living in the junkyard and with them taking some of the junk. It's not right to steal but I guess it's OK to do something like that in order to survive like say if you're a wanted fugitive who is innocent trying to clear his or her name, a homeless person or four giant mutant turtles and a rat that alot of people wouldn't acept. Although they do get a lot of fancy stuff like pizza and video games but maybe they bought the video games cheap at a charity shop and they were wearing those famous trenchcoats at the time, though there's still the question of the whole money thing and I guess aside from finding it on the streets they would probably pick pocket as well which is kinda mixed for me because yes they need to survive but what if say the person they took the money from needed it to get home on the train or something? I guess the easy way to get over this is to not really think about and just enjoy the Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles. They're heroes and they fight bad guys who do worse things.

Yeah, I'd say just ignore it. The Original TMNT comics were much more "grittier" then the "Archie Comics" version. That being said I think I do remember that one or more of the Turtles might have tried having a night time job. Also Donotello probably could repair stuff and pawn it off on the second hand market. Now days it would be much easier with E-bay.

I also remember in the 2007 CGI animated film that Donotello was working as a technical supervisor over the phone and Michaelangelo was a childrens entertainer wearing a big turtle head and those are solutions to putting food on the table, though at that time they already knew April and Casey for quite a while and Shredder was defeated and they were all split up with Leonardo away and the other 3 and Splinter still living in New York. Also one wonders how Donotello got that job, I mean wouldn't he have to go to an interview or something. Well maybe he wore a disguise that to us the audience would definately show us a big turtle and fool the interviewer, but if Superman can fool people with glasses then I guess that would work as well. But yeah, it's better to just look the other way. You know how on Power Rangers that Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd know who the Rangers are and never do simple things like kidnap their parents (though that did happen only once), blow up their houses or blackmail them, well I just ignore that. Also just watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze today and it was stupid but enjoyable. Gonna watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III tomorrow.
