Regarded as one of the worst films ever made. I watched the whole movie on Youtube a few days ago. Most of the film's shortcomings are due to its low budget and technological deficiencies. Of course, that does not excuse some of the poor writing (seriously, what was up with that scene with the concubines fighting???).

I agree, it is a rather poorly-made, poorly-conceived film, although the creepy factor was definitely present, especially the cult leader. For those who have seen it, what did y'all think?

I saw the Mystery Science Theater version of it many, many years ago. We briefly had a dog named Torgo. I have a coworker whose last name is Manos, and every time I see him, I think of that movie and secretly laugh.

Manos is hands in Spanish. Is it so bad it's good, or just plain bad?

I don't know if I'd have been able to watch it on its own without the running commentary.

I obsessed on that movie for a while. I agree with Mindsigh, the MST team found a way to make it digestible and mined a lot of comedic elements from it. The backstory on Wiki is that it was written by a fertilizer salesman (go figure) on a bet that he could create a horror movie

I've seen the MST3K version of it, used to have it on VHS, so I've seen it several times. Everything about it was low budget and ineptly done. But I loved it.

Did you know, John Reynolds, the guy who played Torgo, killed himself about a month before the film was released? Pretty sad, he was my favorite character in the movie.

Is it the worst movie? Yes and no. Probably the most amateurish movie I've seen. But I could watch it. A lot of the crap they slam out today I couldn't watch at all.

I was Torgo for Halloween one year. No one knew what I was supposed to be and it was hard to explain "I'm supposed to be a satyr, but really I just look like a guy with really big knees and... yeah"
I saw it on MST so I don't know what it would be like without the commentary.
