Nostalgia Critic reviews Scooby Doo
I just watched his review of the 2002 live action movie yesterday and I gotta say I'm really confused. Is this his final review because it indicates that as it is parodying the final episode of Star Trek TNG. If so then I am really ticked off because of 2 things:
1) I didn't like the review that much
&
2) How can he just end it like that without any warning?
I read in some of the comments that it's not true but I just wanna know if there's gonna be more reviews in the future. I understand that he's married and that he would probably want time off and I'm OK with that, but darn it I want him to review more movies. No one can review bad movies like him, absolutely no one.
He seemed to be dropping hints that this might be the case, but I doubt it. He's made videos with similar rants.
This is his career. It's very unlikely he would go strong for so long and just decide to stop the act all together one day, without telling anyone on his facebook, or twitter or in the final video itself. I'd be very surprised if this was actually his final video. He appears to still be working on some major collaboration with other TGWTG members (although I haven't been watching this particular series.)
I've seen people on youtube quit making videos, and I would say unless something major has come up in his life, such as a big career opportunity, or a deadly disease it's unlikely someone as popular as he is would just stop making videos, so suddenly. So I would be shocked if he actually does quit like this and doesn't ever come back.
First off, I personally loved the review. Probably one of the three best he's done this year and it served as a great lead-in to the 4th anniversary special.
Secondly, I wouldn't read too much into NC hinting at hanging up the tie and hat. If TGWTG was shutting down or Doug was retiring from making videos, I'm sure there would've been some advance notice. In the past, he's been really good about explaining situations that would limit video output (IE: his computer virus late last year, the SOPA crusade, con appearences, etc.). If he was retiring the character and ending the show, there would've been SOME advance notice. Besides, what would draw more hits to the site and draw more revenue: a sudden ending or an advertised series finale?
I'll admit that I was a little confused too and thinking that the end was near, but then I looked on the site's forums to see what everyone else was saying. Apparently, this isn't the first time there has been mass paranoia about NC ending. The forum thread for the My Pet Monster had a very similar reaction to the seemingly uncertain ending. Also, apparently Doug, along with the reviewers who play Nostalgia Chick and Todd In The Shadows, have all signed deals to distribute their material through Blip. Using common logic, why would Doug walk away from doing videos right after committing to a new production deal?
Just something to think about. Although I still recommend heading to the TGWTG forums to check out some of the debate going on there so you can draw your own conclusions.
