For some reason, I've never had much luck with stand-alone DVD players; there always seems to be some kind of fault with them and they never last that long.

I use an original XBox to watch DVDs which has lasted me for over five years and the picture quality is great. I also watch DVDs on my laptop.

I started out with separate DVD and VCR players. They both eventually died. I replaced them with a refurbed Sony DVD/VCR combo player that has worked well, but then the very old TV died over a year ago. I am going to replace that soon, probably in September, as I've heard that's the month when you can get the best deals on new TVs. My biggest problem, besides the TV, has been that DVDs and videos often have scratches or other defects, which cause them to act up when being played. And yes, it is aggravating when the program skips.

I have a blu ray player now but I did get peeved in the past when my DVD players would always make the discs jumpy. I even get irratated when the computer freezes.
