Did the second of the House of 1000 Corpses come out yet?

As for me, I've enjoyed Camp Sleepaway (the 1st is the best of course), the Halloween series except for this last one, Night of the Living Dead series, Evil Dead series, Psycho series (except for the 3rd one-- didn't like it much), and I also love a lot of the old horror flics like Dracula and the silent Phantom of the Opera.

TheViking, if you've never seen the first Camp Sleepaway I highly recommend it. It has one of the most awesome endings EVER.

Cannibal Holocaust - Probably the nastiest expolitation flick. only film thats actually made me queasy. Emotionally too, it gets extremely distressing and difficult to watch.
Night/Dawn of the Dead (both versions) - just a great zombie-fest
Nosferatu: Phantom des Nacht (70s remake) - genuinely creepy, atmospheric and erotic. the perfect vampire adaption imo. dont know if its considered 'cult'
Threads - 80's TVM chronicling a nuclear holocaust in northern England - arguably the most depressing film ever made. & they were playing it to school-kids!
Invasion of the Body-snatchers - Gave me bad dreams!
the war game - 50's (?) Nuclear docu-drama.
Blair Witch Project
The Shining
Alien

Based on reputation, ill probably add 'Ringu' (original japanese version) to the list, when ive seen it.

I have PTSD (I'm totally serious) from the American version, The Ring. I don't know why. Nothing has EVER scared me liked that. It took me a good three months to not be nervous sleeping near a tv. For the first week I actually slept in my mother's room on her floor. And it took even longer to be able to pass by the movie cover in the video store without flinching. I still avoid looking at it. But I can't allow myself to rethink about the movie, otherwise... 8O 8O 8O

Perhaps i should pass - ive heard someone else say they really wished theyd never seen it. I was saving it for when i had some really trippy para-inducing smoking mixture - perhaps not such a good idea!! More likely a 'trip' to the psych ward.

Cannibal Holocaust is the only film ive refused to lend someone, because they had suffered suicidal ideation recently and i sincerely thought it might be the last straw.

Kewel, I'll have to see it then. :D

As for The Ring, if you've got a good stomach for horror and nothing has really ever gotten to you, it probably won't be too bad. I just really don't know why it got to me that much. The dead girl in the closet totally freaked me out the first time (yes, I was stupid and bought the DVD later), and then the second time the girl from the tv scared me even more. I gave the DVD away to a friend, I couldn't bear to have it in my apartment.

But I've even heard from a couple guys who thought it was completely wimpy. So I guess it just depends. I'd suspect Ringu is way better and if you watch anything, probably watch that one.

Funny enough, my mother's god son was one of the crew in the Ring movies. I haven't forgiven him for that one, lol.

Dead Alive.
Rawhead Rex.

The Ring....I love it!
The first time I saw the girl in the closet that freaked me out.....but I'm over it now.
Haven't seen the second one.....is it any good?

Oh yeah...saw Ringu.....Totally sucky....not scary at all compared to the North American version.

The Grudge.....I hate that movie! (it scares me) .....I was stupid enough to by the DVD. My theory was to watch it again and conquer my fear of it. But I can't do it.

Hmmm...I tend not to like horror films too much because the whole throat slitting thing (seems to be a popular death scene choice...) gives me panic attacks. But, since panic attacks are sometimes useful, here are a few of my favorites.

"Haute Tension". I'm not sure what title the English version goes by, but translated it's 'high tension.' It is without a doubt the most brutal, nerve wracking, 'i-feel-sick' film I have ever seen. On that alone, I would generally not recommend it to anyone because it is simply so ...bloody. What redeemed it for me, however, was when I noticed that towards the end, I was sweating, feeling kind of shaky, and was genuinely terrified. It really pulls you into its world and once you're there, it doesn't let up.

"Pet Semetary". Not too scary, but I guess it is something of a classic. Also good is the fact that it has a more philosophical kind of feeling to it; while not explicitly talked about within the film, some scenes deal with the nature of life and death, redemption, freedom and responsibility, etc.

"The Bad Seed". The original black and white one. By today's standards, it's quite tame, but that black-and-white sensibility and near naivete contrasts perfectly with the remorseless, calculating little girl (the bad seed.)

Oh, this is off topic, but I've never been able to figure out what the word "cult" means in context of "cult film," "cult classic," etc. So, what does it mean if a film is say, a cult horror film?

That said, disregard my suggestions if they do not fall in that category. Should've asked before posting, heh.

I dont know exactly, but 'dawn of the dead' original easily fits any definition, because theres a huge body of hardcore fans who actually make a pilgrimage to the shopping mall where it was filmed.

Cannibal Holocaust was banned for ages, and would be illegal to film today (animals definately were hurt during the production :( ). That pretty much guarantees a cult following, although it is a powerful story in its own right imo.

I used to be in a private bitorrent club called delirium-vault that specialised in rare, cult movies. There was loads of stuff youd never dream of finding anywhere else. Sadly it folded a year ago, but its good to know copies are out there in cyberspace.

There is a working torrent of Cannibal Holocaust on www.isohunt.com right now. If your in the states or somewhere and worried about being sued for copyright infringement, i *think* you might be safe as long as you make sure the films arent made, owned or distributed by one of the major companies. Delirium used this policy to survive when the legal stuff kicked off and the other P2P sites were intimidated into shutting down.

i think faces of death was a series, which just comprised loads of random 'real-life' clips, but most of it was faked.
