The Dark Knight Returns pt1 comes out on Tuesday.

IGN gives it 7.5/10 with most of the markdown for lack of extras on the bluray...

My copy is ordered and on the way. I hope it is as good as the adaptation for Year One.

So, I just finished watching DKR pt1, and I give it 9/10...

It's very faithful to Miller's book and ends with the defeat of the Mutant Leader and the rise of the S.O.B.'s (sons of the batman).

The character designs, especially Batman, are nice and chunky like Millers. On the minus side, the colors are a bit too bright. Also the Mutant/street gang speak will probably seem strange and hard to understand for anyone unfamiliar with the book.

Carrie Kelley's Robin is surprisingly good--as Bruce Timm says in the featurette, the movie is really grim when it's all "pissed-off old Bruce," but then Carrie shows up just in time to give the story some much needed humanity and heart.

I think splitting the story up into two 75 minute features was a good call--you could not do the story justice in less time.

I will eagerly await Joker and Superman in part 2!

:D
