Now that the month of October is here, I think it is the perfect time to share some of our favorite horror movies or even movies you have seen recently and quite enjoyed. Every year on halloween I always watch a few horror movies and some during the build up, hence my idea for this topic.

I watched Cabin in the Woods yesterday and thought that was quite good. Something a bit different compared to your usual hack and slash films. I also recommend Trick 'r Treat and the Tales from the Crypt series to those who enjoy scary stories.

Insidious is the last movie that scared me, although watching it over is hard because of the slow build-up and the crying baby. The haunting of hell house is another good one (the 1973 version).

A Cabin in the Woods was fun!
On Netflix: Pontypool!! Loved it! Moon is more of a scifi psychological thriller, but it's one of my favorite recent movies, and has a really creepy/bleak feel to it.

Just watched The Evil Dead. Quite impressive for its age and low budget. The special effects would be considered cheesy now, but its still rather gory and good for a few scares. Will need to watch the sequels soon I reckon. Looks like I will have even more to watch as well thanks to these suggestions

selected episodes of the 1960s "outer limits" were so scary that some local tv affiliates refused to air them in prime time or censored them.

I'm more a fan of classic horror (the Universal monsters, Hammer horror, Vincent Price films, etc), the old slasher films from the 70s and 80s, and pretty much any horror/suspense film that knows how to build up tension and suspense (good examples: Rosemary's Baby, The Haunting). Sure I like horror films that favor visuals in place of tension (American Werewolf and Poltergeist for example), but I'll take the old visual and makeup effects over CGI any day of the week.

The Changeling is a really good supernatural thriller. It's one of my favorites. Most people I've ever talked to haven't seen it.

The original Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. That film is utterly terrifying.

Since the series is some what popular I thought I would give the first Hellraiser a try. Its funny how you see Pinhead on the movie cover yet he isn't featured much throughout the movie. I actually found the character Julia to be quite creepy to watch throughout compared to the others. Plenty of gore as well Still have plenty of movies on my list to watch, partly thanks to the suggestions here so this years Halloween movie fest should be a good one for me.

I really liked the Grudge. It was so much fun, and it skeeered me too.

I've always been a big fan of John Carpenter's The Thing. Screw the remake/prequel/whatever it was trying to be that just came out. The 80's one, that's where its at. Most horror movies annoy me on how obvious they get for cheap scares and never actually scare me, so I don't watch most because I just find them pointless. The Cabin in the Woods was great though but I mainly saw that because it was co-written by Joss Whedon.


But yeah, horror movies never actually scare me. Like some people talk about having nightmares after, and I just dont get that. Sometimes an unexpected thing can startle me and make me jump, but that isn't fear like some people get from horror movies. This artificial fear that horror movies try to create has zero effect on me and especially nothing lasting past the end of the movie. Its just a movie, I know its fake, its impossible for me to get scared from them.

I will toss out The Mothman Prophecies.

I'm not saying this is majorly scary but has some creepy moments. I find it mostly bizarre actually and I enjoy weird stuff. I think it's good for Halloween because it is supernatural but not a typical ghost or demon.


Otherwise, 1408 isn't to shabby for a Stephen King haunting movie. Again not quite a ghost but an evil tainted hotel room.
