Many of us WPers of a certain age remember this amazing 1980s game show called Press Your Luck. For those of you who don't know how it is played:

The game was played in two rounds, each with two parts. The first and third halves are question rounds, where the spins are earned. The second and fourth parts of the show are the big board rounds, where contestants played with an 18-square board taking spins at the Press Your Luck board, which was filled with lots of dollars and prizes, but there were also Whammies. Land on one, your winnings will go bye-bye, get four, you are done! Whomever won the most money at the end of the show returned the next day to play again.

I have much fond memories of the show. Even though the show ended almost a half year after I was born in September 1986, thanks to its constant stream of repeats first on the USA Network and now on GSN, this show is right up there with The Price is Right and Jeopardy! in my upper echelon of game shows. It's just so exciting and funny!

It gave us the expression "Double Whammy".

That's all I know.

Also of note: There was a revival on GSN called "Whammy! The All New Press Your Luck" that was nearly similar to the 1980s version; it ran for two seasons. I also have good memories of it from freshman year of HS watching it.

Just saw the fourth PYL ep ever aired....... it's amazing to see the early parts of a show's run, to see how it all began, and to see it evolve.

At SakuraCon and KumoriCon, a PYL game is played at each con....... I took part in it in 09 and won.

Until the player who had memorized and figured out its pattern came on the show and won over $100000. The show was not the same afterward even with randomizing the board afterward.

I used to like watching it, until my cable provider decided to remove GSN from the list of channels we get. I also liked watching lots of other game shows on that channel. My favorite game shows that I can still see are Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Let's Make a Deal.
