Knowing: The Film

Has anybody seen this film called Knowing? It's about this person who writes these numbers and they turn to be a prophecy.

I have never seen it, because it sounds really awkward and contrived. And I don't buy that 'end-of-world' stuff at any rate. Anybody else seen it?

I saw it, loved it, and own it.

Alex Proyas had previously done Dark City and the unfairly maligned I, Robot. But even knowing his background, I was blown away.

There are a lot of movies that take an interesting premise and do exactly nothing with it, using it as an excuse for a few car chases. Knowing is definitely not like that. It's very original, and extremely audacious.

Contrived? Sure, I suppose, in the sense that there's a prophecy. Beyond that, the movie flows very organically, and remains true to itself until the credits roll.

Highly, highly recommended.

I've been told by more than one person that it's better than it looks. I do like the first couple of films that Alex Proyas made, The Crow and Dark City, but I, Robot was a f**king mess. I'll give it a rent and see what I think.

I, Robot was definitely a popcorn flick, but it had a couple great moments. The interview between the detective and the robot for one, and the scene where the old robots protect the detective from the new ones for another. There were some more scattered around.

Knowing is far more ambitious, a return to the boldness of Dark City. A lot of people hated it, a lot of people loved it, but very few people watched it and had no opinion one way or the other.

Liked it, but it's weird because I generally dislike Cage's acting.

It sucks

The best thing about this film was the lady playing Nic Cages characters mum played by Benita Collings. If you are Australian and under 40 you grew up watching her on Play School.

I thought it was over the top stuff. It had interesting moments but seemed to take a jump off the deep end later in the film.

I've heard about this film is that hints at Scientology. Is this true?

I saw it over 2 years ago. I didn't think much of it apart from the end, where they boy and girl are taken away, presumably to live somewhere else and repopulate the human race. Hopefully the world won't end they way it did in the film.

It was a very interesting movie. Some of it was shot in Northern Massachusetts not far from where I once lived.

I liked it, it was a decent film. And I'm usually not a Nicolas Cage fan to say the least.
