I have both Netflix (with streaming and DVD) and Hulu (which I subscribed to only because of the large selection of Criterion Collection titles they have on-demand).

On top of that, I am working on my film criticism website project. It is going public in February.

What are some must-watch films that deserve to be written about on my upcoming website? I have my own tastes, but I want my horizons expanded.

For the record, I am willing to watch anything with the sole exception of hardcore pornography.

So, I am not going to say what my tastes are in this opening post. I want to know what other people like.

If you're a Johnny Depp fan, I recommend any of the following:

Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Sweeney Todd (2007)
Edward Scissorhands
Sleepy Hollow
Ed Wood

All of the above were directed by Tim Burton, FYI. The next three have Johnny Depp in them but weren't directed by Burton:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Finding Neverland
Secret Window

Some dark but quirky movies:

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish version)
Fight Club
Naked Lunch
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Repo! The Genetic Opera

Misc. movies that I enjoy:

Disney/Pixar's Brave
How to Train Your Dragon
The King's Speech
Amadeus

On Hulu? Why, Torture Dungeon of course. "Time? What is time? It cannot be controlled. It dominates us like lice on the back of a mangy dog, we jump through its hoops some Gypsy beggar travelling in a shoddy carnival. I hate time! Time is evil! Time is spent! It must be destroyed!"
