Ridley Scotts' new film, PROMETHEUS, opened in London last night and I was in one of the first showings of it.

Special effects are absolutely wonderful - if FX is what rocks your boat, go see it purely for that reason and no other.

Script is, well, not the point, I hope, because if it is then someone needs to get their money back.

Charlize Theron is as gorgeous as ever: Idris Elba, as the captain of the spacecraft, is good; Michael Fassbender, however, absolutely steals the film. with his proto-Germanic bearing plays a robot very, very well. Noomi Rapace disappoints.

On the whole, however, I'd recommend going to see it: it's entertaining and surely that's the point?

I'm definitely seeing this. I've been wanting to since it was first announced.

Noomi Rapace is in this movie? I absolutely adored her in the Swedish "Dragon Tattoo" films. Too bad to hear that her performance isn't up to par this time.

Do the Aliens make an appearance in the movie at all?

I keep reading bad reviews of this film. But when I see it I will go not expecting much and hopefully be impressed.

I said the same thing but I still felt let down by the movie, it had potential to be a great film but it failed to deliver for me

Regardless of any bad reviews, my wife and I are planning to get tickets for our upcoming 11th wedding anniversary.

Been confused by the reviews which are all over the map.
When they say they're disappointed, it's a real let-down.

My guess for this movie is that it tries to be like the original Alien but without the xenomorph or gore and tries to be weird and surreal, judging from the trailer. If its an odd little movie I'll be happy, I just don't want something badly written like a Paul Anderson film.

Many of the reviews say the first part is good, almost Kubrickian, but the last part is a let down.

I have been looking forward to this one, and I've been avoiding spoilers til I see it this weekend. I have been rewatching all the Alien movies on blu ray before I see Prometheus. Started with Alien last night, and I'll do Aliens tonight.

I just got home from seeing it.
Personally, I'm not disappointed. But also I'm not 100% ok with it either.
I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I think maybe some people we're expecting something different, judging from reactions I overheard as I left the theater.
Possibly some folks might have been expecting more of a direct prequel to alien. It's more of psuedo-pre-prequel.
As a fan of all alien films, it leaves me contemplating how it connects up with alien. It's more a story that is from the same universe as alien, just earlier on the timeline. It's not really a thriller film or even an action film. It's regular sci-fi with a few shocking scenes. As a regular sci-fi film, it leaves one thinking.

On the down side, there are only a few story elements and scenes that I found a little over dramatized.
Also from an effects standpoint, it was great, but as with any prequel of a sci-fi movies from years ago, everything is a lot higher-tech appearing than the original. The Prometheus has fancy holographic displays, while the Nostromo had Apple II quality displays. But now I'm just nit-picking.

Overall, I recommend it. Just don't go in with expectations and enjoy it as a stand-alone film all it's own.

I just saw it too and over all I'm happy with it. I think the story might have moved a little too fast and, there wasn't enough time to form connections to the characters. I went in expecting to not like the Shaw character and found I like where she was going at the end (hope that's not too much of a spoiler). Overall I think the movie could have been about a half hour longer in order to develope the plot/characters better but, that's what extended Blu-Ray versions are for. Hopefully it will be out by Christmass.
