I think this is a flawed analogy. If someone wanted to "cure" my ability to fly, to rip steel beams in half or to shoot friggin' laser beams out of my eyes, I'd also be reluctant to take my prescription (to say the least). But a cure for autism? I'd take it in a heartbeat.
I mean, what do I have to lose? The power to have shutdowns, meltdowns and panic attacks that make me look and feel like an idiot? My superhuman awkwardness and clumsiness? My amazing ability to be a good-for-nothing social recluse in early retirement? Sensory issues aren't the same as super hearing. Being unable to look people in the eye is not a superpower. I'd love to get rid of all that.
Remember this started as a allergory for nerds, being excluded, the gay issue was a late adaptation.
Anyhow obviously us being in sense actual mutants it was talking about us.
Were a spectrum, just like in first class, some of us, have huge advantages while others are stuck with massive burdens. Some want to be cured some want to be free. Theres a wide spectrum, just like in real life.
Even in the movies its clearly stated that different mutants have different abilities. The xmen are comparable to savants, while morlocks and other groups being more of the regular kind.
