I'm sure you had me in mind when creating this, right? Everybody on here knows I can't resist a Johnny Depp thread. :D And I can only pick 5? But he has so many good ones! I'll have to go with the mainstream ones, since they're what introduced me to the rest of his work, and they have the most unique characters:

1. Alice in Wonderland
Reasons: I love all of the characters (esp. Alice and the Mad Hatter) and the awesome CGI.

2. Edward Scissorhands
Reasons: I strongly identify with Edward (on top of finding him absolutely adorable), and I hold the belief that the story is an allegory for autism or other neurological disorders.

3. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Reasons: I love how creepy and socially awkward Willy Wonka is. He makes me laugh a lot. As with Alice, I love the visuals.

4. Pirates of the Caribbean
Reasons: I love the setting, clothing and music, and of course the characters (esp. Jack, Will and Elizabeth).

5. Sweeney Todd
Reasons: Basically the same reasons as PotC.

When I first saw the title of the thread I thought for sure that you had started it.

The first three are among my favourite films ever, and it was too difficult to rank them, so they're all joint first. The last two are nowhere near as awesome, but they're still wonderful:

1. Dead Man
1. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
1. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
4. Sleepy Hollow
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

I've been wanting to see Dead Man. Too bad iTunes doesn't carry it.

Fear and Loathing is a great movie. It even turned an ex-stoner friend of mine into a Johnny Depp fan! you_are_what_you_is, your avatar always reminds me of Dr. Gonzo for some reason.

Benny & Joon's a pretty cute movie, I like it.

Before seeing "Dead Man" it is good to know who William Blake is. Google him, the English poet , artist. The Doors did song using one of Blake's poems: the one the indian quoted in the movie. "Some are born to sweet delight. Some are born to endless night"
Neil Young's score is great too and he follows the movie well.
I find new details. philosophies, and motives throughout. I've grown to believe that this was how the west really was.

1: The Libertine
2: Pirate movies

First one is excellent acting and bringing a true story to life. Great filming too.

Second is bringing a fun character to life.
