The 2007 film Juno ended on a seemingly happy note: Juno and Bleeker got together, and Juno's son is adopted by Vanessa.
My pitch, Jupiter, takes place sixteen years later.
Jupiter, Juno's son, is now a veteran of several suicide attempts. Vanessa, having lost her high paying job and working as a prostitute to pay her drinking and drug debts, loathes his very existence, telling him he should never have been adopted by her. Sometimes, he comes to school wearing Vanessa's anger all over his pale, emaciated body. He is contact with Juno and Bleeker, who are more interested in having attachment-free sex than giving a damn about him. The film ends with Jupiter finally committing suicide, with College's "A(n) Real Hero" playing over the credits.
