Just saw Star Trek last night and I enjoyed the movie for the most part. The opening sequence was very entertaining to say the least. The movie stayed interesting for about an hour.

It was around the time of the movie where John Harrison got captured by Kirk, Spock and Uhura that the movie started to feel like a complete rehash of a previous Star Trek movie. The Enterprise took on board 72 missiles with them that happened to have 72 cryogenically frozen people on them. Harrison reveals himself to be Khan, and the 72 people are his crew. The rest of the movie kind of plays out like Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. There are some obvious differences between the two movies that play out, but you can't help but feel you have seen this movie before.

Overall, I have to give this film a 7/10. It was an excellent movie and Khan was played by a pretty good actor. Spock had the best moments in the movie, and Kirk showed some vulnerabilities that William Shatner never showed with the character before.

I thought all the actors did a great job, but the script was just not there. It was too derivative; and with not much new to add.
I did love the Klingons and especially their Birds-of-Prey.

That sounds absolutely terrible.

This is what happens when you put a Star Wars fan in charge of Star Trek. The entire Star Trek cannon has now been completely ruined. Star Trek is dead.

I have yet to figure out what I really liked about the movie.

I will give JJ Abrams the benefit of the doubt with the next Star Wars Trilogy since I am an uber fan; but his Star Trek films? Forget it. Those for me ended with Star Trek Nemesis. I refuse to see his Star Trek films, because the original cast WERE Star Trek, not these carbon copy guys. And no, cameos by Leonard Nimoy doesn't quite cut it, sorry.

I absolutely loved the movie, and was totally taken by surprise that Harrison was actually Khan.
I just wish they could have gotten an actor who resembled Ricardo Montalban (spelling).

I liked the new Star Trek movie but then again I'm not a die hard fan of it really. I thought the actors were good (especially Benedict Cumberbatch), the action and special effects were very good and some of the past nods were cool to see.

The script needed some work now that I think about it especially the ending as it was a bit rushed. I'm wondering how Star Wars Episode 7 is going to made now and if there will be a Star Trek 3.

I have just seen it in my opinion the first half was good but the second half was just The Wrath of Khan remade I was disappointed with the second half.

I was pleased that the seventy two survivors from 1996 was consistent with the original although I wanted to see Gary Mitchell as the villain and I still do also Trelaine, someone could potentially have a lot of fun as Trelaine and delight the fans. In conclusion, I had a good time, almost add much as when I recently saw Star Trek II at a local theater with Space Seed as the opener.

I can't speak for the long-running fans, but I think JJ Abrams has done a good job of entertaining people who aren't familiar with the Trek francshise. I walked into the first movie without having seen a single episode or movie from the old days (apart from one movie involving dolphins, and didn't really *get* it) and thought, "that's a cool way to spend a Saturday afternoon."

I can understand why Trekkies might be upset at it being dumbed down for the masses, but it's quite the spectacle. Part of me wishes it would fill in some plot holes and go further down the character- or plot-driven routes, but then I do like harder SF (maybe the original Trek would appeal to me after all then...?). It's hard to tell whether it was intended to rival the originals, or do its own thing. I'm interested to see where the next one goes.

The casting is good, if nothing else. Zoe Saldana was damn cool, Benedict Cumberbatch is a great villain, and Simon Pegg never fails to make me smile (even if his accent drifted a bit).

Alice Eve was one thing I did enjoy in the film

Thought the movie was excellent. Didn't mind that it was a partial re-hash of Wrath of Khan. I sort of knew Harrison was going to be Khan because I read a review which said something like "Harrison turns out to be an old nemesis" and Khan was the obvious answer to who that might be. My only complaint, besides that, was that a lot of the movie was predictable - I figured what was going to happen 4 or 5 times before those things actually happened.

Awesome movie. I don't understand all of the negativity from Star Trek fans. From some of the comments I've seen on Youtube, you'd swear that Into Darkness was a shot-by-shot remake of Wrath Of Khan.

I'm glad that Khan wasn't killed off in this movie. No sense in killing off a great villain.
