He requests that Spidey be gay. One very important thing you have to know is that I'm not against homosexuality but I don't want one of my favourite fictional characters who was never gay to begin with go down that path. I don't want Mary Jane to be a homosexual black man. Saying that sentence just sounds ridiculous. I guess when it comes to stuff like this I just don't really like change. You can make a few changes but not very big ones. You can recast the actor, you can make a few alterations to the costume, maybe even create an all new love interest like when Batman Begins gave us Rachel Dawes and you can make a few changes in the origins e.g. not making Peter Parker a wrestler, but for something like this to happen kinda bothers me a little. I don't wanna be prejudice agaist the gay coumminity but I don't want Spider-Man to be gay. It's just weird. What's even weirder is that if Spider-Man was a woman and wanted to explore her sexuality then I don't think I would have a problem with it because it's the opposite sex and I feel kinda ashamed about that. I guess it's the horny fanboy within me. There are other people also complaining about it and if you feel offened by this article then I apologise but those other people probably have worse things to say even the F word.

The Green Lantern already turned gay, I don't think Spider-Man should turn gay too. Since about 90% of people are straight, it doesn't seem fair to the majority to make very many super heroes gay, especially the most popular ones.

True but that wasn't Hal Jordan it was the other guy who I don't think was even that popular despite the fact that he was the first GL. Hell I think Kilowog is more popular than him.

Yeah, I agree. At this point it's just getting annoying. A few gay superheros is one thing. Making them all gay? There is such a point where it starts to look ridiculous.

So I know some homosexual people myself and have no trouble with that, but yeah...the imagination of MJ suddenly outening as an Brazilian transsexual, is for me as someone that is highly visual thinking...yeah...^^. Additional for female readers of spiderman, its sad...I mean spidey always had that, very, very close costumes, where not much room was left for imagination. ^^ Other superheroes have that as well, but he always had that "not being always so earnest" touch, that made him sexy. I mean Thor is always telling pathetic asgard stuff, Captain America is so holy you can puke, Superman mostly is presented as someone so prude that the look of a womans breasts were more deadly for him then cryptonite, Cyclops is simpy a lamer that shares his sex appeal with pope franciscus...

Dont know, Spiderman and Wolverine have always been the cool boys, not the "We have to stay earnest, everything depends on us all the time."-grandfathers ^^, so him getting homosexual would be a bit sad. :(

I have heard that they wanted to reset the whole comic series the next years, with new painters and so on, so I think it would be better if they would present a new guy or gal in one of the bigger groups like the X-men, or add an "from now and then" sidekick to one of the soloheroes, that they could give an own series, when he/she becomes popular.

Edit: Didnt come up right to my mind, but bi-sexual and adding an additional partner to MJ would be absolutely ok for me. :)

When you really think about it, this maybe impossible to happen. Although they're not kids movies the Spidey flicks are more aimed towards the younger viewers. I mean there's merchandise toys, t-shirts, video games etc. Kids will probably be wondering why Spidey is kissing a man and some adults may not want they're kids to expirience something like that. Plus while he's no Tony Stark, Spidey is a ladies man. Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, The Black Cat. If Spidey goes gay who are these women gonna be webbed by?

Spidey in the Marvel cannon is straight, and that is the number one reason why Garfield's idea ought to be put into the circular file.
I guess I'm a Marvel fundamentalist. :?

Frankly, once comics started pushing politically-correct garbage after 9/11, I figured their era of greatness was over.

The writers who stick to telling stories and not making political statements will be the next giants to emerge.

I have no problem with making a character gay if their sexuality is still open, but Spiderman has been pretty heavily established as being straight. You know, Mary Jane and all. This is just jumping on the gay bandwagon.

Honestly despite this silly suggestion (again nothing against real gays) I think Andrew Garfield is a great Spider-Man and while many of you may try to track me down and kill me for saying this I think he's better than Tobey Maguire.

I resent that remark. :x

Even though Garfield is obviously kidding around with this, I would not be opposed to a re-imagining of Spider-Man as gay, or other popular heroes for that matter. Marvel mainstream canon doesn't need to be carried over to the film adaptations detail-for-detail. They've tweaked things around before for the movies.

Spiderman as a Brazilian Transgender sounds "amazing".
