I've seen "Bowling for Columbine" a couple of times. The first time I thought it was interesting. The second time, I thought it sucked. Something I realized is that the movie relies too much on pop cultural references and irrelevant cutaways to clips as filler and much of the content is very disjointed and unrelated to the issue at hand. (I mean, seriously? You interview one of the creators of South Park just because he used to live near Littleton and call THAT a relevant source on the subject of gun control? It's no wonder they totally ripped on this guy in Team America and South Park.) It feels like a very mediocre research project with no real cites or sources and just relies on big news stories and people that the public would have major knowledge about through the media.

On Netflix there's a series called Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking...completely fascinating.

I don't really watch a lot of documentaries, but I love this show called Deadly Women that comes on Investigation Discovery. It's a crime show that focuses on female serial killers. It's really entertaining to watch.

Inside Job (my rating: 10/10; quite possibly one of the best documentaries on what really lead to the 2008 economic global meltdown)

i've not watched many documentaries of late but the 2 i have watched that stand out in my mind are for the bible tells me so for its presentation of an accepting christian stance towards homosexuality and the perfect vagina which is the best documentary ever and everyone needs to watch it. if you identify as cis-female and have any body issues they will disapear after watching this just because it is so horrific to watch what people who are insecure about their lady bits will do and you can see that there is nothing wrong with them at all. blokes should watch it too so they understand how harmful pressure to conform to unrealistic standards of beauty can be. insecurities they feel are all in response to pressure from society and its narrow constructs of beauty. i watched it in my gender and womens studies class and the effect it had on the predominantly female class was huge. you could feel it in the air. i think i felt everyone clench their thighs together when we saw the woman getting her labia cut off. even our proffessor was disturbed. i am looking forward to socialist alternatives summer of discontent film festival. the line up is a bunch of political docos starting with one on the iranian revolution of 1979.
