I Spit On Your Grave
Irreversible

I know this is not horror, but one of the most shocking movies I've ever seen was Memento

The Skin I Live In: I don't even know what to say without getting into spoilers.

COSMOPOLIS: somewhat disturbing, mostly weird. Makes you think about the Wealth Gap and the insane economy and go WTF

Citizen X: under-rated HBO made for TV movie. Not super gory, but based on crazy true events.

The Wicker Man: basically just because of the end scene. (The original not the stupid Cage remake)

The Silence of the Lambs: nuff said

Mulholland Drive: another David Lynch head trip

A Scanner Darkly: actually entertaining, but with a disturbing undertone toward the end with a look at the drug war and surveilance complex everywhere and finally the implication of who is really behind Substance D.

NAKED LUNCH: One of the strangest film experiences ever. Bill Lee's drug addiction journey to "Interzone" encountering Mugwumps, Centipedes, talking typerwiter beetles, and the scheming Dr. Benway. I would simply call this genre Drug Noir.

Beyond The Black Rainbow: seemed like an inspired student film that was well funded. Seemed to draw inspiration from David Lynch and Kubricks's 2001 A Space Oddesy. Even tries to build a retro theme as it takes place in 1983. Fair warning: do not expect a real plot to this. It just serves up a funky sci-fi retro atmosphere with interesting visuals and a nice synth film score.

I'm old enough to remember when Trilogy Of Terror first aired. It was one of the few shows my parents didn't let me watch, because it came with the warning of adult situations, and at that tender young age, they thought I shouldn't be seeing that sort of thing. I recall my Mom telling me it was "x rated." I'm not sure how she had come to that conclusion. But as it so happens, I misunderstood "x rated" for "x rays." Years later, I watched it on video, and found it very, very tame regarding sexual matters. Great horror stories, though.
