Has anyone seen this 1996 anime series?

I just finished watching this series, and was very much moved by it. It featured great animation, an interesting storylines, and sympathetic characters in general. I liked how it's a giant mecha series that is set in a world that is based upon Renaissance-era Europe. I also like that the main character Hitomi is NOT a mech pilot. I think this show had a pretty good balance between the action and the romance, without one taking over from or detracting from the other.

Any thoughts?

I really liked the series... but usually if I go back to watch something, it's the movie.
