I watched this film last January and I was pleasantly surprised. I hate horror movies but I was willing to try because it was on Netflix and Kang-ho Song, one of my favourite actors, was in it (It was his birthday that day). It wasn't quite horror per se. It was part giant monster movie, part environmental parable, part political satire and part dysfunctional family dramedy.
Song plays a forgetful, clumsy single father who loses his daughter to a giant monster that emerges from the River Han, and, along with his father and his two siblings, fight to save her.

Song's character Gang-du and the way he was treated reminded me of myself and my own life. Especially in the way his father, Hee-bong, defends him from his own siblings who don't understand or respect him.
I myself am quite clumsy and forgetful, so I understand his plight.
