I don't really play video games anymore, but I plugged this one in and I remember why I used to. Earthbound's a real keeper, if there's ever a game that will get your mind off the real world for a while, heh. I like trying to figure out the little messages that might be behind its surreality. Has anyone played the sequel? Is it as good as this one?

It is one of the most requested games for the Wii's Virtual Console, where you can download classic games for under $10.

earthbound is my FAVORITE game of all time.

a lot of the surrealness comes from the japanese take on american life. which is why the area is called eagleton...it's america. winter up north, i think, is supposed to represent canada. dalaam is india and i think summers is supposed to be like the french riviera.

the reason why i'm not sweating getting the wii too much is because earthbound hasn't come out on virtual console yet.

but when that comes out...it's on.

There's this joke in the middle of the game that probably sums up my sense of humour better than any I can think of. It's when you fight those moles in the mine, and each one of them tells you that they're the third strongest mole... and then when you fight the backgrounds all say No 3... :D I find that far, far funnier than I should.

I also like how they merge different aspects of American culture together, like the parody of suburban life with psychedelic music and backgrounds.

there's also a repeating beatles theme throughout the game. the music when you initially wake up is a play off of the beatles' good morning.

hehehehehe..."you have faced the best, second best, fourth best, and worst...and now it is time to face the truly third best!"

Earthbound is kick@$$. For one it shows how much basball bats can do to a person. Two
it is a complete replica of how american kids need to lose wieght. [E.G- Nesses next door
nieghbor, Pokey.] The game also is a mockery of illegal immagrants and how they will
do anything for $1. [E.G- The Desert Road after you get off the bus to go to Fourside.]
Yes, this game is outdated and so is the Super Nintendio but who the f^ck cares.
