What is your favorite movie by the legendary director Alfred Hitchcock? I have seen many, but my favorites are:

Rear Window
The Birds
Psycho

"The Birds" is pretty good until the end. The end is disappointing.

I like "Rebecca". I wonder if her replacement would've been liked more by Mrs Danvers if she was as confident as Rebecca. Her replacement was a bit too nice...a pushover. Mr Dewinter...

"The Rope" is terrible.

I have not seen all of Hitchcock's movies, but my favorites are Rear Window and Vertigo.

My most favorite ever is "Shadow of a Doubt" with Joseph Cotton as the bad guy. 1943 (?)

Next favorite is "Notorious" with Ingrid Bergan, she is just so stunning. Plus, great thriller. (1946?)

I thought so too, the first time I watched it. However, the ending does not seem so abrupt, and actually provides closure if you assume that the birds frenzy is a sort of projection of the mental states of the women in the town. Much like Rear Window depicts Jimmy Stewarts hang-ups about marriage through the allegorical narratives played out in the adjacent apartment block, the birds are a representation of the emotional states of the women that they surround in a given scene. The reason the Birds are calm at the end of the movie is because Rod Taylor's Mother and GF have peacefully reconciled.

Thanks, Stannis. I will have a look at The Birds again. What you said has rung a bell.

Don't think I've seen any others.

You nailed it in one about the ending of "The Birds". Hence perfect ending in my opinion. Hitchcock tried alternative endings but none work to the same degree.

"North By Northwest" is my favourite Hitchcock film as well as just about the best film I have seen. Scarlet Empress, The Searchers, 2001, Rules Of The Game, City Lights and Once Upon In America are the only films I can think, that surpass it.
