What a film. I loved the directing. Stuff like the scene where Fink reclines in his chair against the paisley wallpaper. Its a minor scene but so cleverly done. The hellfire scene, the final shot, the mosquito incident the endless hallway of shoes and doors. Just an incredible piece of art.

What do you guys think of the symbolism? There are a good few Jungian archetypes for instance. The relationship between the Capitol boss and his underling is a starkly defined Jungian archetype. Its interesting that he fires the guy but he remains towards the end. I assumed that it was because he was needed to maintain that life sized ego, but the two are a single vessel, you cannot have one without the other.

The box is interesting and is more than just a severed head. It represents something or many things. It could well be his soul or identity now made property "Everything you write will be the property of Capital films!". Then there's the sweating walls the pus filled ear the references to blood The entire film is packed full of imagery and metaphor.

I loved the alcoholic writer who was obviously based on William Faulkner.

Oh, no, the part of the writer having his books written for him by his secretary/lover was complete fiction. But otherwise, he was William Faulkner in everything - from his well mannered southern gentleman persona, to that of a mean drunk - save in name. He even looked almost exactly like Faulkner.

My favourite Cohen Brothers film and one of my favourite films ever. Beautifully eccentric.
