I liked these a lot, also.

Here are my favourites. My criteria here is that I learned something valuable from them, and enjoyed them enough that I watched them more than once:

Manufacturing Consent- is an invaluable introductory resource for people interested in why the news media is usually far less than objective and impartial; as well as an introduction to the thinking of Noam Chomsky.

The Red Chapel- is about a Danish troupe of comedians, who go to NK to put on a show. The body language of the NK's is particularly interesting. We project a lot of our own assumptions about what they must be thinking, but who is to know if we are right.

The Corporation- anthropomorphises the corporation, and sets out to demonstrate that they are psychopathic.

The Power of Nightmares- explains how our politicians use fear mongering to control the population. Particularly delves into the background of the, "War on Terror" narrative.

Cosmos- No need to explain what this is.

Slavoj Zizek: Perverts Guide to Ideology- explains how ideology functions.

Dark Days- is about New York's subway dwellers.

Crips and Bloods: Made in America- explains the origin and lifestyle of these gangs.

Jean Luc Godard: Sympathy for the Devil- This is my favourite documentary. It makes some interesting observations about the essence and function of phoney mainstream rebellion culture epitomised by the Stones (whose music I like, by the way).

To add a documentary series that is terrible, but I like anyway: Ancient Aliens.
Has anyone been to the "Vice" youtube channel? Their documentaries are outstanding.

"Helvetica" - Probably the most entertaining documentary about a font that you will ever see.

The Up Series - It seems less intresting now as the participants have gotten older and seemed to blend into more or less similar lives, but i really enjoy seeing how different people try to find out where they are going as they grow up.

"Koyaanisqatsi" - This is a mesmerizing film and still the best one of the three.

"Memory of the Camps" - this was a documentary that Alfred Hitchcock directed but was not finished. I saw it maybe 15 or 20 years ago and it was extremely powerful.

"Grizzley Man" - Pretty much any documentary by Werner Herzog is worth watching. I thought this one was particualrly good.

"The Mystery of Picasso" - Shows Picasso working.
