I like the old version, Willy Wonka in the Chocolate Factory.
Charlie and the Cgocolate Factory is terrible.

I like the music, it sounds evil

They're both equally great!

Charlie one because of Johnny Depp.

The Tim Burton version. I liked Willy Wonka, but I preferred Charlie because it's closer to the source material (and the only songs are the Oompa-Loompa songs, which are Elfman's entertaining takes on Dahl's own lyrics). The subplot about Wonka's father, while not in the book, is an interesting addition. Besides, Dahl's family approved it. I think, DaWill, Depp as Wonka probably works better if you think of him as being like Howard Hughes than Michael Jackson....

the new one is more in line with the book but the old movie is a little more fun musically.

i enjoy musicals...but i liked the new one better....book wins out over rewriting of book every time.

The second has Johnny Depp, but the first has the best Oompa Loompas.

When you think about it, neither of them are more like the book than the other.
Most people look at the Nut Room part as being why the new one is more like the book.
But if you look, you will see what I mean...................

(Pros) Willy Wonka - characters are more like the book. Willy Wonka actually likes the children. The children are fairly nice, minus their faults. Takes half the movie to get into the factory, like in book. White Candy Store Guy. Gene Wilder.

(Cons) Willy Wonka - fizzy lifting drinks scene not in book. Oompa Loompas and Oompa Loompa songs are differant. Slightly differant ending. Golden Geese room. Candy Store guy is skinny. Music gets annoying.

(Pros) Charlie - Nut room. Grampa Joe says "Yippie!" Fat Candy store guy.Simmilar ending. Grandma Georgina has awsome lines. Johnny Depp.

(Cons) Charlie - Characters are nothing like they are in book. Stupid @$$ flashbacks. Willy Wonka is doesn't like children. Black candy store guy.

So if you look at it, they are about even. Characters are better in Willy Wonka. Plot is better in Charlie.
But I'm not looking for which one is more like the book. We could debate for hours about that. So instead of saying the reason you like which movie is beacause it is more/less like the book, focus on the aspects you like about which one.
