For some reason today I was trying to think of all the fictional ailments I've seen on Sesame Street.
Naturally, most of them end in "itis" or "flu", but one time Big Bird had the Birdie Pox, which made him break out into big itchy green spots. He recovered by the end of the show. Others I remember are:
Grouch Flu: Only affects grouches and makes them act happy, friendly, and cheerful, although on the inside they feel miserable. Treatment includes things to help make them feel grouchier, like eating grouch soup or listening to a grouchy story.
Counting flu: Only affects The Count. Makes him get dizzy and faint whenever he tries to count things. Had to go without counting for a while to recover.
Kittyitis: makes a puppy mew like a kitten instead of barking. Cured by eating a medicinal dog biscuit. Actually might not be a "real" illness on Sesame Street because it was imagined by two characters who were thinking about being vets when they grew up.
Alphabetitis: Causes a terrible stomachache because the alphabet is stuck inside the patients tummy and can't get out. Patient must be operated on and have the alphabet float out, a letter at a time. Actually an imaginary illness Telly Monster pretended to have while playing hospital with his friends. He also pretended to have numberitis, which is similar except the patient has a terrible headache because numbers are trapped in his head.
Mineitis: A grouch illness that causes symptoms like dizziness, involuntary hopping like a kangaroo, and then start grabbing other people's things while yelling "Mine!" An outbreak suddenly happened on Sesame Street and most of the characters had it except Oscar, who explained what it was. When Elmo asked why everyone else had it if it was a grouch sickness, Oscar happily said they were probably just lucky. He wasn't quite ready to give out the cure, which is sharing things, until all the people with mineitis started taking all his stuff, which they would never would have done if they were well.
Cookie Flu: Cookie Monster -who else?- had this once. I think it was the same as Counting Flu except he fainted at the sight of cookies instead of actually eating them. And of course poor Cookie Monster had to not be around cookies to be cured.
Birdie Pox - Big Bird once caught this like I mentioned above. His friends helped him out during the day, but when night fell he was alone, couldn't sleep, started thinking he was going to have it forever, and started crying. Fortunately one of his friends came to comfort him and his spots began to disappear.
