Is there anyone else who thinks the way the Matrix works is utterly ludicrous, and, as described, impossible? Using coded symbols to describe objects and people in the Matrix simply wouldn't work. You would cut any nerve connections to the senses, hijacking them with the computer socket, which would then be used by the Matrix to send false electronic signals to the brain.
Ie. What you see is an electric signal sent to the brain from the eyes. The Matrix would send false signals, which would be replicas of what your eyes would send you if you were actually seeing it.
The Matrix was crappily thought out, with no weight given to the actual feasibility of what they proposed, and their explanations of how it works. A real Matrix would be like a glorified MUD program, replacing text with electronical impulses, incorporating sight, sounds, smells and touch.
Still a fun movie, nonetheless.

I like how it's really diverse (the crew) in the future...

They're always making pop culture references... "Hey Mikey I think he likes it!" or "Mr. Wizard; get me the hell out of here"...

The first movie was great but the sequels were really crappy... I mean botched...

In the movie they explained that they used coded symbols simply because there was too much information to process visually like they do in the training construct. Sure, it was a weak point in the science, but compared to the rest of the stuff in the movie it was excusable.

I liked the references, too. There were actually hundreds of them, and some of them are back to ancient mythology. For example, the fact that the Oracle was baking cookies and sitting next to the oven door was not an accident or a plot device, but a reference to the fact that the Pythia (the Oracle at Delphi) would sniff a pleasant smell from a crack in the rocks and then make her predictions.

The sequels weren't very good, but I did like the motorcycle scenes, mainly because I own a Ducati and that's what they used in both sequels. It was a real treat to actually hear a Ducati motor in the movie -- most of the time Hollywood records the action sequences on exotic bikes and then dubs in the sound of a generic Honda 4-cylinder motorcycle.

I think Keanu Reeves is a very one-dimensional actor, but most of the time he picks movies where that works well.

I never liked the Matrix...*gasp*...Yes, I thought it was boring.. I just didn't like the idea of "the matrix". That, and it was all sooo boring. I couldn't follow the story (was there one?) and it was sooo boring. It's not that I like easy, fast-paced movies. I just don't like "the Matrix".
