This was one of my obsessive interests for a time when I was about 15. I would watch it night after night, absorbing the details, learning the lines, the music...everything about it appealed to me, and I just found the idea of the humans becoming more robotic than the androids themselves so interesting. I have even written a sort of mini stream of consciousness on my thoughts on this movie...any other Bladerunner fans out there?

*gasp* I [BOLD] LOVE [/BOLD] that movie!

I remember hearing and obsessing about it when I was 12, and I had my parents watch it first. But they decided I probably shouldn't watch it yet (Glad i didn't!)
About a year later, my obsession jumped up again, and I ended up watching it with my father. I was a little iffed about a certain scene at first

*SPOILER* When Roy Batty crushes Tyrell's head! Mainly because i didn't see it coming... *END SPOILER*.

But lo and behold, I found myself watching it over and over again this year!

I felt a little bit of empathy for Rachael. I don't know why...

It's not an obsession or anything but I'd agree it's a damned good movie. Y'know Scott is finally releasing the "Ultimate Final Cut" or whatever he's calling it now? They're putting it back in theatres from what I've heard.

I saw the director's cut when I was too young to understand, and didn't like it. I've seen parts on TV since then. I dunno. I'm not a fan of Ridley Scott's style of directing, and while the effects were great at the time, they don't hold up 90% of the time for me, and I really don't like the music. So I always found it kinda overrated. I do adore "A Scanner Darkly," though.

Glad some others like it...the skull crushing scene has always been the hardest part for me and I still turn away when it comes and block my ears as I cannot deal with the sound even! I just like everything about it, especially the eerie street scenes where you have the huge, flashing advertisements and that creepy sound in the background...and the place where JF Sebastien lives.... I would love to live somewhere like that. There are just so many interesting concepts in that film and a lot of symbols and I have always been very much into symbols and motifs.

Yes. This movie is amazing in that its so dark and... damn it. There's a word that I want to use to describe it, but I totally can't remember what it is. It's a surreal movie, but the way its directed, all of the weird plot twists and events seem so down to earth. As opposed to David Lynch surreal. 8O It's like it's always one step ahead of your thought processes.

Loved "Bladerunner", It is one of the greatest cult future-noirs ever made.
I especially like the way Vangellis blended the background and "incidental"
music together.

Blade Runner is in my list of Top 10 Favourite SF Films. I prefer the original theatrical release over the director's cut, and I firmly believe that Deckard was most certainly NOT a replicant.

I've watched it many times (probably around eight).
I downloaded the directors cut a few months ago ( i like to get rid of my tapes and have them on disc.)
I've never understood the fuss about the unicorn & the chinese-origami guy until i watched it last time.

I think the movie is more fun if you've read about it and are watching the director's cut. The first time I saw it I was pretty young, it was the original version with the fake happy ending, and I didn't really understand it. After doing a lot of reading about it--reading about film is one of my hobbies--I was able to snag a copy of the director's cut and be very elitist about the themes of the movie, etc...but it really is an awesome film and totally worth the time. I do think a little reading about the ideas and symbols of the film wouldn't harm the viewing experience, though.

Bladerunner what character are you? quiz for anyone interested...

Bladerunner Quiz

I got:

Image

You defy the nature of people to classify you in any particular category.
As an icon, you stand for strength, truth, and good, but you are not necessarily the icon that people accociate with you.
People tend to find you attractive and charismatic. However, you tend to only be attracted to specific traits. You know what you are looking for.

Your attractiveness may make you serious enemies that may hunt you to extinction.

You are the Cambodian lady.

Everyone seems to overlook you, unless they want something from you. You have a rare and esoteric knowledge, and a skill that is not inconsiderable.
Despite that, you remain in the background. Whether that is by destiny or by design is a question that only you can answer.

You tend to be inscrutable and cautious, and play things close to your chest. You also tend to be loyal, and a real friend stays a friend through thick and thin.
