I enjoy movies and television but im not interested in watching them as much as most people. I don't really fallow the trend of movies, tv, and comedians like most people. Do you consider yourself an aspie who doesn't really fallow the popular media? I find I don't and it makes socializing tougher even around other aspies.

Movies and TV shows are pretty much my life, along with books, but I don't really follow current and popular trends. I don't keep up with shows just because I'm expected to know what happened on last night's Insert Show Here. I mostly watch older stuff like Perry Mason, Ironside, The Addams Family, Combat!, Mission: Impossible, and Star Trek, and only fairly recently started watching newish shows like Deadwood, The Shield, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Black Sails, and The Following. I always wait for the DVD or Blu-ray, so it's never current for me. The closest it comes to being a "social" thing is when I discover some new show I like and lend my sister the DVDs.

It's the same with movies. I haven't been to a theatre since 2012, and the few newer movies that interest me, I just pick up on Blu-ray. By the time I get around to seeing Big Franchise Movie 2, most people are already building up anticipation for Part 4. Who cares.

In the evenings I channel surf for documentaries while either playing a video game or working a jigsaw puzzle. For some reason I don't purposely initiate renting and watching a movie.

My main reason for getting into some video games was that it was a popular conversation topic at work. I bought the games that folks most often talked about just to be more sociable. It worked fairly well.

I was into Breaking Bad the first time it aired - - before it became the most popular show on TV. I was ahead of the crowd, I guess.

I felt that way when they started making Iron Man movies. This character who nobody except me ever cared about was suddenly everywhere, and I couldn't speak up about it without sounding like one of those "I liked it before it was popular" hipsters.

Other than Sports, Game Shows and occasionally the News (but only when something meaningful is happening), the only TV show I watch is “Survivor”. I have seen almost every episode, beginning back to the 1st season. I am not certain why I like the show. Probably, because I like watching the “tribal council”, where the contestants vote someone out. Quite often, the voting outcome is a surprise (to at least one person). After I finish watching it the first time (and knowing the outcome of the vote), I will oftentimes rewind it (as I watch a recorded version). This allows me to replay the entire “tribal council” and study people’s facial expressions.

How much I watch goes up and down. I was watching movies like crazy but now I'm back to watching less. Sort of the same for TV shows. They're such a big commitment that it can feel overwhelming.

For me, a big part of it, is that I've seen and loved so many shows and movies already. So I don't always have a strong need to experience more as I can think back on the ones I already enjoyed.
